Yeah, so I feel a little funny that you feel funny about posting these... emotions are most intense when things aren't going well, so I dunno. It's complicated 'cause I've drawn some fairly heavy-on-the-suffering images from this series and I don't want to overdo it, but at the same time there are a lot of parts where the situations just seemed dire. The real Endgame arc didn't really deliver on the pathos of the situation in a way that was satisfactory to me, but this does, and for that I thank you.

Thanks. I appreciate your thoughts on it. It does make me feel better about it. I guess part of the problem for me is that I don't feel comfortable expressing strong feelings, and yet I do want to, so I post stuff like this, but then feel uncomfortable about it...I think? And then I don't really know what others are thinking when they draw similar things too, so I don't really feel like I have any larger context for my own feelings about it? Or something like that? I'm still trying to make sense of it haha.

OK, so I know I already left the story 'n' all, but dammitall I just love this pic so much. Your usual strengths are all on fully display-rich colors, strong lines, great job layering background and foreground, great use of differing mediums to help distinguish the characters from their surroundings, fantastic coloring-and they all work together to build the scene so strongly. The bruises and markings all over Sonic's body are especially well-rendered, but I also love the folds in Sally's hood, and most of all I love the emotions of the scene you create so powerfully. Sonic's expression especially is just really...powerful. All that exhaustion he's been through is plain on his face, but so is the rush of relief at who he's looking at. By the same token, I love that Sally's face is seemingly stoic...but then you catch that little curve in her brow, and the tightness of her mouth, and you realize it's really a mask to hide her own worries. Just...so much great emoting going on in a richly-detailed scene. Love it so much. <3

I'm glad you feel the emotions I wanted came through. I feel like it can be hard to know if I'm seeing it simply because I know what I'm trying to convey or if it actually comes across to others too. Especially because as I've said, I would have liked Sally to be a bit more expressive.

Yeah, I know that feeling, very well. But I also think you've got a real talent for subtlety and nuance with your colors and lines, and I think that helps you very much put forward the feelings you want in your drawings, for the record.

Everything was black.
"...an you...me...?"
Everything hurt.
"...ke up! I ne...wake...!"
Sonic tried to remember what had happened...he'd been running, from...Geoffrey? Yeah, yeah that seemed right...he'd been running, and he'd fallen.
"Hang in th....just like...ow you can...."
Fallen far 'n' hard...and he was tired, and and he was hungry, and Sally was dead...Sally. Sally....
"Be OK. I need you to be OK!"
...Sally...?
Sonic's eyes fluttered a moment, then, as he let out a hoarse, shaking breath, they opened. And there she was. The bangs of her dark-red hair were sticking out from beneath the hood of a black coat, but the face was unmistakable, even to his blurred vision. "...sally...?" he croaked.
For a moment, "I'm dead...I died in the fall..." ran through his mind, but then he felt those soft fingers laced beneath his arm...under his head. And he knew.
"...oh thank the Goddess..." he heard her whispering voice breath out then. And he realized he had something he wanted to say too. Needed to say.
"You're alive."
His voice and hers spoke the words together, both coming out as a strong sigh of relief.
"You're alive...." Sonic said again, a soft tremble travelling across his body. His already-blurred vision began to soften even more as he felt his eyes going wet...a small part of him hissed "No tears. Never tears," but he was too weak...too tired...to listen to it.
"Yes," Sally said, "I'm OK, Sonic. I promise, I'm OK."
He remembered then. Seeing that hooded figure following him...helping him...and then disappearing without a trace. "I'm sorry," she continued to speak, "for having to keep my distance from you all this time, but I couldn't risk revealing myself. Dr. Quack and I agreed it was safer if Robotnik didn't know I'd survived...."
Her fingers tightened a little around him. "But then...you fell, and I had to...I had to make sure you were alright...." There was a slight crack to her voice, briefly.
The question of "how...?" lingered at the edge of the hedgehog's mind, but it never came out. Instead, he tried to lift his hand towards her, but that too failed. He could see those blue eyes looking at him...looking at his still-limp arm as it wobbled in place. "Don't move," she said, and the crack was gone entirely from her voice, "you need to conserve your energy."
"...not...my style...." he coughed, a smile curving his cheeks even as his tears rolled along them.
"No...I suppose it isn't," she said with a brittle laugh. "But even so...I'm going to need you to stay still while I patch you up, OK?"
He gave a small, short nod, and then felt her fingers slowly slip out from under him. His vision was clearing enough to see them move into the pack that rested on her back, emerging again with...some kind of bottle? And white...tape. Gauze, that was it. "This might sting a bit, but I'll be as quick and gentle as I can, I promise," she said.
"...'m a big boy...I can take my medicine...."
Again she gave the shortest, roughest little laugh, and then the hedgehog felt her fingers again, moving the gauze along his body...every so often, that sting she'd promised would also come, wet and dabbed against his many open wounds. That work continued for a few minutes before he heard Sally take in a breath, a noise that was almost a word coming next. Then, after another moment, she spoke. "...I never thought it was you," she said. "Whoever that was who cut my rope...I never thought it was you."
"...lots of...other folks sure do..." Sonic whispered.
"I don't care what 'other folks' think," she answered immediately. "I don't care what my father tried to tell me. I don't even care what I saw."
She tightened one last bit of gauze along his arm. "I knew it wasn't you."
"'Preciate...the show of support, Sal..." he chuckled. "But maybe...go a bit easy on the wrappin'...OK?"
There was the slightest little "oop!" then, followe by a quick, short "Sorry."
Another moment's silence passed before Sally said, "How are you feeling?"
"A little better...each second..." he answered with a wink.
""Think you'll be ready to move soon?"
He gave a grunted "mm-hm" in reply.
"Good."
Again her fingers left him, but he fond her gaze holding his strongly. "Because we're going to get you out of here, and we're going to find Robotnik. And you and me...together?"
Her hand came to wrest on his, and he felt those fingers slipping together into a fist. "And we are going to stop him. Once and for all."
He smiled, and focused his hand into a fist of its own. His met hers. "Then let's do it to it, Sal...."

I was wondering exactly where in the story you would place this scene, and I love the choice! I'm not sure what else to say right now haha...I'll probably post more later, but I wanted to at least give you my reaction now
Edit: OK, now that I've reread it, like, 10 times today... XD
The emotions are just perfect - exactly what I was going for. The exact scenario is a little different than anything I'd come up with, but still very similar, and the details of how each of them reacts to the situation and each other is actually better than anything I'd thought of...but you're much better at getting "in Sonic's head" than I am, so I shouldn't be surprised ^_^

That doesn't explain why he's wearing no socks or gloves. Or why is feet are chuffed.

One other follow-up...the picture and story are more about the emotions than the explanation. I had a number of (sometimes conflicting) ideas behind the details of the picture because I can't draw a scene if I don't have an explanation in mind, but I left it open-ended for viewers to interpret however they want. Plus I don't really feel comfortable share everything I was thinking. Sorry if that's not what you were hoping for.

As Elisto explained, the story is meant to be a vague analogue to "End Game", so he can be assumed to have lost his gloves 'n' shoes at some point during the intense chase he's been through.
And hey, for future reference? Maybe don't respond to the story you more-or-less asked for and were given for free with a kind of silly nitpick and nothing else, OK? ^_^

I don't want to answer for him, but I can say I never gave Gojira007 details about what exactly is going on, only showed this picture to him while it was still sketched out with a very rough explanation, so both the picture and the story are coming from somewhat different perspectives. As for where all Sonic's stuff is, maybe Sally took it off to take care of his injuries? And it looks like this story take place after Geoffrey had been chasing Sonic through the caves in issue 48, during which Sonic still had the broken shackles from earlier in the story. (Even if I'm mistaken about the story, that's what my intention was for where they came from in the picture)

Sure, but just so it's clear, I'm not writing it - a friend is - and I'm assuming it's going to just be a short thing to elaborate on this picture. I could be wrong though...I don't know quite what he has in mind. But I'll let you know either way ^_^
