Description Finally I managed to make our scanner work with this new laptop! It was more complicated than I thought...

This is a request drawing for , her German Shepherd / Alsatian puppy called Abbey. I finished this a couple of weeks ago, but I couldn't submit it here any earlier.

Yes, the file is quite big. I tried to make it smaller than this but I don't have my good old editing programs anymore so I had to use Paint for the size.... And the result wasn't good (the original size was about 2300x3400).

Made by 5H, F, HB, 4B and 6B pencils.

Art (c) me!

I'd like to hear what you think about this. Good advice is always welcome too.

(btw. maybe this is just me, but it feels like we have less and less space for titles every year. Porbably in a few years the deviation titles aren't allowed to be any longer than 4 letters....)

I don't know. I know what I'm going to draw but I haven't got a chance to start it yet. I still have about 7 school assignments and one exam to go through Hopefully I can start it next week.
(actually I shouldn't hang around in dA either but I can't focus on school stuff all the time)

I don't remember anymore how long it took, hehe... But normal portraits without backgrounds are quite simple and easy to draw in my opinion.

You know, I think there is two types of german shepherds. From the two I have I noticed that their faces have really different structures. One has a thin muzzle and a really wolf-like face, like your drawling, and she's a bit more muscled. The other has a rounder snout with larger jowls, and she's slimmer. Any idea why that might be?

Elkenar In reply to SandBladeRaider [2011-07-03 14:56:07 +0000 UTC]

I've heard that one type of the German shepherds is called Alsatian and according to the owner of this dog, Abbey is an Alsatian. If I remember right, Alsatians have developed in the UK and that's where you can see them. Unfortunately I don't know more about the different types of this breed. I believe some German shepherd owners can tell you more.

I think it's quite usual that the same dog breed can look a bit different in different countries. When a dog breed lives isolated in one particular area, they can develop in the long run. For example, dogs who live in very cold areas will most likely have a thicker fur than their "breed fellows" in some warm countries. Once I met a toller from Norway and I was surprised to see how different he looked compared to my own toller. Both the fur colouring and head shape were very different. Also people can breed their dogs depending on if they want work or show type dogs. Maybe the more muscled German shepherd is originally a work type dog?

I can tell she's colder climate. Thanks for confirming the Alsatian type for me^^
