I'm trying so hard to enjoy the female characters in this series, but they are pissing me of more than I wish they were.

Probably the biggest issue with the series. Great story overall, but the female characters got portrayed poorly. Constantly Tugging their hair, straightening their skirts, mooning over the same guy etc...Β

Thank you very much for the comment! I agree with you about wishing her and Rand got together. I think that the worst part of the Wheel of Time is the 3 women mooning over Rand with very forced/fake infatuation. I would have liked the books if he only feel in love with one of them instead of three. The romance in the book just feels forced...like none of them had a choice.

She looks so ethereal! Great job. Egwene is my favorite female character.Β I feel like Jordan put more depth into her than most of the other females.Β His female characters always fall flat for me.Β Egwene and Min are the only two decently written females IMO

Thanks a lot for the compliment! I have have to agree with your statement. Most of the female characters in the book can be really one dimensional and unremarkable at times.Β

First, I have to presice that I'm french and my english is maybe.... aaarrgh XD
I think Jordan's women characters are all the same in a certain way. At the beginning I loved Nynaeve ( she made me laugh XD) but, now they're all crying and whining about how stupid men can be, blabla. The women are all strong but they could be easily exchangeable, it's like all of them have the same kind of temper. Maybe the problem is there are too many characters in his saga.
Β The ones that I like the most are Egwen (from the beginning, even she is starting to get on my nerves too) and strangely Berelain ( It was her that I didn't like from the beginning, but now I think she could be an interesting tactitian with all her "charms") and maybe Elayne ( I think she has grown up a little).
About Jordan, for once, I think we has a writter who wanted to give a real importance to women in a fantasy novel, but I think he failed a little.
Sorry again for my english >__<

Thank you very much! This is meant to be before the series starts. A prior Bel Tine before the Trolloc raid

I have looked into doing just that so I can paint and listen to the book at the same time. Unfortunately they are a bit to pricey for me to justify buying on audio. I may end up doing just that so I can finish the series. At the rate I am going I am looking at a really long time before I am done.

Overall, a great work. "B+" for technical. "B" for cultural detail. While that dress is absolutely something I could see a 16-17 y/o girl wanting to wear, the fabric looks a bit high-quality for what the Two Rivers would have on hand -- I believe it was mentioned many times that the best they would have had would be good stout wool, with VERY rare instances of linen -- and the yellow thread for her collar would be problematic to acquire. Women in the Two Rivers would also not approve of - or allow a girl to wear - something that low-cut, at least if I understand them at all...
I'm also looking at the proportioning of her shoulders and seeing that either her right shoulder is a lot further out than her left, or her dress is slipping on her left. Something there just looks a little... off. I'm also a bit disappointed that her eyes aren't open. =\
Overall, it's a great piece, far far FAR above my own skill level.

Thanks a lot for the honest feedback! I definitely agree with you on the dress and material. I didn't think about any of those things when I started painting. I wanted something form fitting and regal, I just imagined them busting out their best dresses for that one day and then shoving it back in the bottom of the boxes. As for the proportions, I see exactly what you are saying...the lighting is also wrong based on what I had originally intended. She is supposed to be mid swirl with her right shoulders back and her left forward. The light should have had a much less prominent exposure on her right shoulder if that was the case. The collar on the other hand is completely off lol....lets just assume it is slipping.
I could probably fix that by making an armpit crease by her right breast. Then it would be her entire arm versus just shoulders. Her dress is probably a bit too risque for the Two Rivers, but I think they would let it pass this one day

I love Egwene, even when she's being bossy. Excellent work, as always. Looks just like I imagined her.

BEHOLD THE HAIRPORN! *o* And the lightning! The light is so warm, it makes Egwene's hair look so soft and fluffy and pretty... I love it!
And the dress is amazing! Not to mention her chest - you really did a great job with her breasts, they look natural and not oversized in any way (like it happens often in fantasy fanarts).
Oh, and I love that her nose isn't perfectly straight or something!

Shouldn't her hair be in a braid? Or was this before that? In any case, amazing work.

I don't think it should be. If you remember "Eye of the World" she was talking about finally being able to braid her hair soon, just before the Trolloc attack.

Thanks a lot! This was not from any particular scene in the book, but it is meant to be the previous year's Bel Tine. She was allowed to wear her hair in a single braid once she turned 17, which I think was the last Bel Tine that didn't actually happen due to the Trolloc raid.

Yup, you're right - when he gets to the village with his father in the beginning of book 1 is the first time Rand sees Egwene with her hair braided, so it must have been a recent development at that point.
