Story:

After proper introductions had been made, Rhonin showed Scarlett and the visitor to a small shrine where he was staying. Once inside, Scarlett and the visitor were provided with towels to dry themselves with and spare clothes, unsurprisingly undersized for Scarlett, to wear while their soaked outfits were drying. Moments later, Rhonin had brought food and tea to quench the hunger of the group and made the conversation that ensued all the more enjoyable.

As the starlit night had embraced the shrine, the visitor had mentioned he was feeling cold. Scarlett had then, much to his disagreement, pulled him to her to keep him warm.

"Let me go, you overgrown furball! I was going to ask if there were any blankets I could borrow!"

"You should've asked that first before complaining about the cold, shorty! Now sit still, your squirming is tickling me!"

Rhonin could only watch as his guests argued, uncertain if he should intervene or not.

At this point, Scarlett had also brought the visitor up to date with what had transpired after the enforcers stunned him, whereas Rhonin had informed them of their current whereabouts. Apparently, the water channel Scarlett had jumped into connected with a river, which had taken them to the more medieval, fantasy oriented region situated two regions south of the metropolitan one. In other words, Scarlett and the visitor were far from anything familiar to either of them.

"Even if you were granted passage out of this region you must still manage your way through the next one before you arrive at the metropolis", Rhonin continued. "From what I have heard from travelers, the separating region is dangerous to traverse much due to it's untamed wilderness and savage inhabitants"

Scarlett, used to facing danger, gave the lynx a curious look. "What do you mean by that first part? We have to apply for passage out of here?"

Rhonin noded. "Sadly, that is the case. Only those given permission by the council, or its representatives, are allowed to leave"
"And why was this decision made?", Scarlett continued.

The lynx sighed. "A reason I am certain you are familiar with - to keep people here"

A moment of silence filled the room. Scarlett couldn't believe what she heard. Together with her creator, she had managed to escape the fate of being an eternal prisoner to her region, only to end up in a similar situation elsewhere.

The visitor broke the silence. "You said those given the permission could still leave, correct? Where can we find someone with the authority to grant a permission of that kind? I mean, at the very least we have to try"

Rhonin shuffled uneasy, his calm expression fading into a sad frown. "I had a feeling you would ask that.. The overseer of a nearby settlement has the power to provide you with the pass to leave the region, but they will not help you.."

It was obvious to the visitor that Rhonin didn't feel comfortable talking about this topic. "How do you know that?"

Rhonin dug his large lynx paws into the robe he was wearing, his discomfort growing. "They seldom show sympathy towards others and seek only to satisfy their own desires. They would most likely demand something unpleasant in return first, should you go ask them for their help.."

Scarlett's patience with the feline ran out. "C'mon! You clearly know this person! Just out with it, who are they!?"
The lynx felt defeated as he looked away from his guests and into the floor. "She is my sister.."

"Oh..", in the light of this information, Scarlett realized the topic was most sensitive for Rhonin. "I'm so sorry! Gosh, I feel stupid for pushing you like that.."

Rhonin shook his head at Scarlett. "It is okay. You did not know, so there is no reason for me to have an ill will towards you"

For the visitor, this was a worst case scenario. Rhonin and his sister were based on the Yin and Yang, with Rhonin being the Yang. Giving his Yin sister a position of power, let alone free reign over an entire settlement and its people, would be like giving an arsonist unlimited access to napalm. The thought of what she was capable of doing was a dreadful one.

"If you're her brother, you'd be able to get through to her, right? You could help us here?", Scarlett continued.

"That may be true, but you see things are a bit.. complicated between us right now", the lynx answered. From the curious looks he got from both Scarlett and the visitor, he knew they weren't going to let this go until they knew the entirety of the situation. "Where my sister exploited people for her benefit, I instead tried to help them. This turned into a vicious cycle for many, where I would make the situation better, only for my sister to return and make it worse again", he shuffled to sit more comfortably on his pillow. "To stop this cycle from happening, either my sister or I had to leave. Despite her many negative quirks, she is still my sister - I would never want to harm her, so I staged my own death and fled here", he looked directly at the visitor. "It is thus not possible for me to join you, should you decide to go see her.."

Scarlett turned wide eyed. "Wow.. I mean, yes that most certainly complicates things!", the vixen looked down at her creator. "Well, with Rhonin's help or not, we still have to try! You created his sister after all, so you must know her just as well as Rhonin. Maybe you could talk some sense into her?"
It would be a difficult, but not impossible, task to accomplish, the visitor thought to himself. Still, Scarlett was right - with his knowledge about his own character there was a chance he could get through to Rhonin's sister, so they had to at least try.
