Description
2013 was supposed to be an even bigger year for me than it ended up becoming. This included serious plans to have at least two major comic projects finished and published, either independently or through an established company. But time and my own personal life got in the way however, so 2014 has become my new goal. And for now, I'm moving along with commission catch up, and other, more professional endeavors.
One of these two projects was a graphic novel entitled "Charred"; an action-adventure homage to 1950-era American science fiction movies, but with Kaiju and Super Robot elements added for good measure. And would have dealt with a small Alaskan town under siege from a small army of gigantic mutations.
The title is a reference to a mysterious giant machine, covered it burnt and solidified substances, that the town folks come across, and use in their time of crisis. Titanic mayhem and awesomeness ensues, of course.
The image before you is that same title 'Hero Kaiju', dubbed Charred by the towns people for very obvious reasons. And is one of my most complicated character designs thus far, though we'll probably find a way to simplify this fellow, when we get to the actual book itself.
Unlike a lot of my other planned projects, I've partnered up with my good friend (Burkion), whose already completed the script for this ambitious book. Meaning that you'll be seeing the completed book in 2014 for sure, if not way sooner if we can both manage. But for, story and plot details have to be kept to the utmost minimum.
In addition, we're also trying to get Charred here submitted to the game franchise "Colossal Kaiju Combat", with a slightly different, alternative version of the same character, but more on that later.
For now, here's Burkion's own written thoughts on the "Charred" design. Meaning that I'm (Enshohma) signing out from this point forward:
NAME: Charred
HEIGHT: 85 feet tall (26 meters)
Colossal Kaiju Combat HEIGHT: 393 feet tall (120 meters)
WEIGHT: 50,000 Tons
Colossal Kaiju Combat WEIGHT: 150,000 Tons
SPECIES: Machine
So, I get to say something I suppose. Charred is, technically, my creation, something I've been working on off and on since round about 2009, possibly 2007, Enshohma / Raf would have to confirm when the earliest point we brought this, and its yet unseen sister series, up. I had the idea of this isolated town coming under siege by giant mutated monsters from some unknown source after a giant covered in what seemed like obsidian fell from the sky and interrupted their lives.
The core of the story has remained the same in part, as details were confirmed by I and Ensho. Things have progressed to the point that the two of us are working making Charred a reality now, a full fledged one shot graphic novel adventure. I call Charred my creation, but this is half wrong. The idea of Charred is mine, and the character concept and idea of the design, but Raf is what brought the titan machine to life. He did, in the tail end of 2011 after we had hashed out some new details on the project that made us both super excited about it and brought everything together, a mock up of a possible title page. It was that title page that made me stop and think "This is going to work."
Raf gave Charred his design, and quite a strong design at that. It is the design of a machine fused with obsidian, which is what Charred is. A giant robot, but hopefully a very unique one. Where Charred comes from, in universe, is a mystery the heroes of the comic discover as the adventure goes on, and the question of how sentient Charred is, is a question left to the viewer. Where the machine comes from, why it is coated in obsidian, how it fell from the sky-all of these are questions for the story to answer. I can only speak on the titular character as he is presented.
You might notice I have two different heights listed, as well as weights. This is not witchcraft or meant to imply Charred can change his size. No, it is simply the byproduct of there being two different versions, so to speak. I plan to get Charred into the Colossal Kaiju Combat game, if I am able, and to fit in he had to be scaled up and evened out, so to speak. We will see how successful I am in my gambit come February, I suppose. That is, until further notice, the only difference between the two. I am keeping vague on the greater details beyond this for a reason, as I like to play things close to the vest, as it were.
That's about all I have to say on the design for the moment, but I'll gladly waste more space with words later, when more on the project is revealed.
