A Juvenile Golden Eagle. These birds migrate right through Illinois and, although this one isn't necessarily wild, I have seen them in the area before. They are one of the largest true birds of prey (this doesn't include condors and vultures), and as adults may have wingspans of up to 7.5 feet wide.

This one, unfortunately, has a maimed foot and will never be released into the wild again.

i live in southern IL, we dont see them that much down here, but i am surrounded by red-tailed hawks year round.

beautiful. You're lucky red tails are very bold! Kestrels aren't native here, but eagles...a real treat.
