Description Before I left for Europe I got a really cool critique from Bryan Lee that can be found here: funkymonkey1945.deviantart.com…

I decided that when I got back I would actually try to implement those things by more than just taking note of it and moving on. I decided to sketch something up with those critiques in mind. Now I gather there are probably still some things wrong with it and if I were to take the revamped one up to a complete finish I would alter things like the perspective on the background and make tweaks here and there, but I think I like the overall feel better on the new one. I still have to work more on full figures and harmonizing the weight and perspective and I think this is a good start.

The style ended up being a bit different because I was paying close attention to his notes but I don't think it's too far removed from my usual stuff. It's nice to get in-depth critiques again, I seldom get them these days now that I'm not regularly posting on art forums like I used to. I usually have to seek out critiques these days from people I know so this was a pleasant surprise.

I thought I would toss up a comparison to show the differences between the two in such a short time.

Interesting, I've never seen an MMA ogre before I like both of the designs, good job!

Well critique is OK as long she is constructive.  -> she is.. OK and your character seems to be "corrected" now.. but he looks now droughty .. lost his muscles.
Even with the "mistakes" I prefer your first edition..

It's true, he got a bit skinnier in the corrected version, maybe it could be considered a younger version of himself.

But overall it's much more natural looking and looks less awkward than the first one. His anatomy makes more sense than it did before and I can easily beef him up to match the first one without interfering with any of the corrections but it wasn't my main focus so I didn't bother to match it up. If I were to take it to a complete finish I probably would have done that.

I think it's fair to like the first one for stylistic and build purposes. I just prefer the new one because it presents me with a more interesting and accurate base to work with than the first one.

hmmhm.. okay. Glad to see that you still allow to "like" the first edition.

You can like whatever the hell you want as long as you're not hurting anyone. If you want to prefer the first version then by all means prefer it!
