I felt bad for Tomoe but Karou is Kenshin's real true love.Β
Tomoe wanted to kill Kenshin for killing her love Akira, but the more she got to know him the more she realized he was stripped of his humanity and wanted to find peace. They fell in love but when the assassins she worked for came for Kenshin, she remembered why she went to Kenshin, to kill him, and when he was fighting them she remembered Akira as his ghost stood there bloody holding a red flower for Tomoe, she realized Akira went to war because he thought Tomoe didn't show enough joy for him and thought she didn't care and got killed as a result. And because of her joining that group the man she came to love and saw him as a kind human being she she gave his humanity back was about to die because she led that group to him and she blamed herself: two men she loved got hurt because she didn't show enough emotion, one is dead and the other was about to die because of her.
She loved Kenshin but felt like her marriage to him was based on a lie and he didn't deserve that. While Kenshin thought he didn't deserve Tomoe's love, Tomoe felt like she didn't deserve Kenshin or Akira, and she knew it was either Kenshin or the group, she chose Kenshin and killed that man and let Kenshin kill her so she can atone for her crimes against Kenshin for trying to kill him and Akira for making him feel he wasn't good enough; as well as set Kenshin free to find someone else who would love him and give him what tomoe can't, and her final gift to Kenshin besides giving him love and his humanity, was the scar on his cheek to remind him to use his sword to protect and defy what he was trained to be and let him be who he wants to be and the scar is also to remind him what the damage the sword can cause if used for harm.
While Tomoe is reunited with Akira, her suffering won't be over in the afterlife until Kenshin meets Karou to end the suffering Kenshin endured.

I feel the same way. Tomoe had been so afraid to love, to show her most beloved person who was she that she almost lost her integrity. In fact she did lose it the moment she decided to strike out against Kenshin. She turned her self loathing onto him because he was the one wielding the sword. Like you stated it wasn't intil later that she realized the truth. She paid the uotimate sacrifice to rectify it, but I still wonder if she was still trying to escape her guilt. In the manga Kenshin didn't go inti that battle knowing Tomoe had betrayed him. He learned the truth of all of it after the fact. I think Tomoe ran away in a sense, but also didn't when she saved Kenshin's life. Would she reject him once she told him? Knowing Kenshin he wouldn't but being a woman in that time period and culture...? Who knew? Still not as bad as China but....

Exactly, her being afraid to love costed Akira's life and nearly costed Kenshin's life and she felt guilty that she was willing to kill Kenshin when he didn't know who Akira was and didn't know he hurt Tomoe.
I think her death was for her to be reunited with Akira as well as give Kenshin a second chance now that she gave him back his humanity and compassion for people and to find someone who can give him love and a family when Tomoe might not be able to because of everything that happened. And for her to atone because her lack of emotion made Akira think he wasn't strong enough and postponed the wedding to go to war to prove to Tomoe his worth when he didn't have to and he died for it, and to save her new husband when Kenshin almost got killed because she led the group to him regardless that she betrayed them when she married him, she felt like Akira's death and Kenshin almost dying was her fault.

Although I don't agree on who the stronger character is because they both went through completely different experiences, I do agree that they both saved Kenshin. I love this pictucre.

In my fanfictions it does, but Tomoe doesn't live long. She lives long enough for the baby to be born but I'm still not sure how to end her life. In the manga it was different. The tragedy needs to be there but Im not sure what else to do to get Kenshin to blame himself for her death - unless she died in child birth. *shrugs*

How many K/T fanfics have you written? I strictly read and write KenKao fanfics though, and occasionally read EniKao or SanoKao ^0^
Yeah I know what happened in the manga. I'd of liked it better if he were Battousai when he met Kaoru. Battousai is kick-ass and dangerously smex. *drool*

I haven't posted anything yet but so far I've only done one; its a twist of both the manga and the OVA - believe it or not there were some small things about both that I liked - VERY small.
I don't read a lot of fics that are different pairings. Even some KK pairing stories I won't read 'cause they put the characters WAY out of believability; disfunctionality, disloyalty, adultry - I just don't like reading that.
I'm kind of with you though on the whole 'battosai' issua. He ruined himself in a way so in MY fics, I'm looking for a way for him to make himself 'whole' again. He gets that start with his daughter, from Tomoe. Little - oh shoot, I don't remember what I was going to name her. I've changed her name. Anyway, he vows to never kill again UNLESS it proves absolutely necessary. Towards the end of the manga in my fics he'll come to learn that he has shut a huge part of himself off. He's not trying to be the warrior he should be. He's been to scared but he wakes up and when he has great battles he still doesn't kill. Not unless he has too. A war is a maddening thing and I think it threw life and roles in life WAY out of proportion for him so he's had to sort things out. With a fresh start he can feel comforted knowing he did his best but that the other person, the dead guy, had left him no choice. He'll be him again - battosai-ish, but still Kenshin.
Im gonna make Kaoru's character a little stronger too. She was strong already but I'm gonna improve on it.
Wow - long winded, eh? ^^!

You should send me a link to your fics. I'd like to read them.
Dude, I know how you feel about those fanfics. They tweak with the original character's personalities and use their popularity for thier own purposes. I don't like that. I stay true to the characters. A little occ is acceptable at times, as long as it stays within the lines of believability and loyalty.

I'm sorry. I don't always make myself clear.
I mean to say is that I'm okay with Kenshin x Kaoru pairing. I'm more of a Sanosuke x Kenshin pairing. BUT I am open-minded when it comes to any pairings.
It will never stop me from looking at your artwork. I don't mind the Kenshin x Tomoe pairing. There is something about it but I can't seem to put my finger on it. Maybe it's the way how Kenshin was when he was younger or something. *shrugs*
I love looking at beautiful artworks.
The way you capture it and I envy you. I still have lots to learn, even tho I'm not a real young spring chicken.
Is clearer now? I'm sorry if I offended you in any way. I respect you. Keep up the great work.

But I didn't understand a lot of your comment. You don't the Kenshin and Kaoru pairing?
I got confused . . .
