Show: WFE Open House
Horse: SLS Cantus
Rider: Laura Bassett
Class: Schooling in the Snow
With the current show season drawing to a close, plans for the next had already begun. For a long time now, preparation was taking place for building a solid eventing team based at SLS and, now that they had acquired the sufficient horses, all that was left was to rally the riders.
Liam, who has always ridden in 3DE around the UK and Europe for numerous other stables, had been busy behind the scenes training up the youngsters, ready for the new decade. The decision was made that he reduce the amount of travelling he did for other stables and remain mostly at SLS, but there was still space for at least one other rider. That was when Angelica had put herself forward to take up training, seeing as she already had previous knowledge in dressage and cross country, and all she would need to learn was the show jumping aspect.
So, on the final weekend of the year, she joined Josie and Laura to observe the jumping portion of the WFE Open House in Denmark. She wasn't totally brand new to show jumping; polls in the arena aided in the training her horses after all, but she was out of touch with true show jumping and had to brush up on the little things like her jump seat, form, even the necessary adjustments of her stirrup lengths. She couldn't just go hurtling towards every jump at a gallop. Or rather, she could, but she shouldn't. Perhaps Laura's style wasn't the right one to observe to back this point, though.
