Description Preliminary speedpaints for a game/story concept called The Tower. (Crappy quality, I know. This is what my images look like in their rough stage.) It's a retelling of the Tower of Babel story in a sci-fi setting, using the construction of an orbital tether to represent the Tower. Known also as a spire, sky-hook, and more popularly as a space elevator. There's a little diagram in the upper-left if you're curious about the science.

"And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children built. 6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do; and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do." -Genesis 11: 1-9

This is an awesome idea. Fantastic. And the images are more than great enough. speedmade images are always fun.

This definitely makes me want to know more about the story! Fantastic job.

I love the orbital elevator concept. I hope someone will get around to building one of these in my lifetime.

The preliminaries look good.

Will watch for further developments.

Well, theoreticly this thing could actually be build, and is being designed. Centrifugal force would keep a spacestation on the orbit of the earth on a thick cable. (Yes, it's debatable if centrifugal force is a actual force.)

This comment doesn't have anything to do with the artwork

I confess that I've researched the topic obsessively over the years. It is quite viable; the only missing pieces are an energy source for the climber (soon to be solved by more efficient batteries) and getting around to actually constructing it, which will take time and money. Carbon nanotubes make the cable possible. Whether centifugal force is a force depends on who you ask, but I personally see it as being the same thing as gravity from a Physics standpoint. Different debate.
So all we really need is a stable landscape near the equator and some serious grant money.

F*** you, Eran.

Just...f*** you. Xp

But seriously, I thought this was for Dennis's enviro project today; I will be very upset if you just randomly did this for funzies and designed a fecking TOWER LAYOUT for the lulz.

In seriousness, though, you know I think it looks wicked-cool. Xp

This is for the Two Genres project. XD Jeeze, I barely have enough time to handle a book commission, much less a personal project. The trick is to make your work personal.

Hope you're feeling better, btw. I think your immune system has several months' worth of backlogged status updates you need to check out.

I know...T-T I'm feeling it now.

Well, I'm a bit better...liquids definitely help. I do have to be at school tomorrow, though. -_-;

I figured; just the fact that we were talking about this on friday gave me a start. XDDD
