this looks ridiculously awesome but when i saw the human armor, all i could thing of was 'SPACE MARINES, ATTACK!!!!'
and i must ask, why is there no ranged weapon in the guy?

I don't know why there is no ranged weapon. Maybe because he is a SPACE MARINE,hahaha

This is really an eye-cathing piece

The monster looks so amazingly awesome (if it makes any sense at all) and it is so realistic. Also, I like how big the contrasts in the background are: the peaceful, calm left side vs. the destroyed, powerful right side.

Congratulations, you've done a wonderful job

Why is it that we as a race cannot imagine a future without war, weapons, bloodshed, or violence? This is what all our great and creative minds keep feeding us as a 'vision' of our future. Please let the New Horizon be one where mankind has evolved past this primitive and self-defeating attitude!

Sorry, I just became aware of this. As the writer of New Horizon, I'll take a moment to answer this for you. But only in the context of New Horizon.

New Horizon is a tabletop RPG, a tabletop RPG without conflict would be boring. Pure and simple.

Despite that however, peaceful conflict resolution with those willing to listen is at the core of New Horizon, players are rewarded for knowing which situations are which, just like in real life.

I'm not touching your question about the fundamental psychological nature of mankind with ten foot pole. There are literally billions of variables, about 6.6 billion of them to be precise. I don't presume to speak for everyone's mind set.

Because peace is boring, and would not sell. Why would they make a game where all you do is lead a normal life? Especially since Sims already has that covered.

HappilyDayzed In reply to defineprog [2010-03-10 20:36:42 +0000 UTC]

This is exactly my point. People seem to struggle to even envision a future without violence and war. My point is not to make a game that mirrors a normal life. What is normal by the way? Your culture defines 'normal' and personally this capitalist culture of the war machine in my humble and honest opinion is sick. Anyone who adjusts well to a sick society must themselves be sick?

A future where people can explore space (both inner and outer) in peace! If you find peace boring... Well that just makes me want to cry! How old are you? Perhaps you have not witnessed enough suffering yet to realize how hurtful a statement that is to you and those around you... I wish you a boring peaceful life my friend.

Well I can't deny that I am sick minded. But I'm also a realist. The point of most video games are to tell a story, and you just cannot have a compelling story without some sort of conflict. I'm not saying I wish to be in a world filled with violence and strife. But the stories of people overcoming hardships are often the most compelling. When I say peace is boring, I mean from a story teller's point of view. Even if we do one day reach a Utopian age, where war is abolished and violence towards your fellow man is nothing but a myth, I can guarantee we will still have stories told of heroes overcoming some sort of conflict.

I have a pretty sick mind at times myself. Probably most people do. I feel much better about your statements now that you have explained yourself more clearly. I agree conflict is a great story, but why must the conflict be decapitations and headshots? You see my point? Conflict can mean so much more then just violence and that is all we get from the big developers of video games. I want to see an epic game that moves away from the present cultures desires. It is hard to even imagine...

Check out a newer game for the PS3, called Heavy Rain. It may be just what you were looking for. Or maybe one of the Detective Layton games for the DS.
