I am a good traditional artist (drawing) but still learning how to digital paint. Any pointers? Love you use of color and lighting.

Sorry, I just became aware of this. As the writer of New Horizon, I'll take a moment to answer this for you. But only in the context of New Horizon.
New Horizon is a tabletop RPG, a tabletop RPG without conflict would be boring. Pure and simple.
Despite that however, peaceful conflict resolution with those willing to listen is at the core of New Horizon, players are rewarded for knowing which situations are which, just like in real life.
I'm not touching your question about the fundamental psychological nature of mankind with ten foot pole. There are literally billions of variables, about 6.6 billion of them to be precise. I don't presume to speak for everyone's mind set.

Because peace is boring, and would not sell. Why would they make a game where all you do is lead a normal life? Especially since Sims already has that covered.

Well I can't deny that I am sick minded. But I'm also a realist. The point of most video games are to tell a story, and you just cannot have a compelling story without some sort of conflict. I'm not saying I wish to be in a world filled with violence and strife. But the stories of people overcoming hardships are often the most compelling. When I say peace is boring, I mean from a story teller's point of view. Even if we do one day reach a Utopian age, where war is abolished and violence towards your fellow man is nothing but a myth, I can guarantee we will still have stories told of heroes overcoming some sort of conflict.

Check out a newer game for the PS3, called Heavy Rain. It may be just what you were looking for. Or maybe one of the Detective Layton games for the DS.
