Truly terrifying... yet extremely fitting for one of the most ferocious (and tragic) characters Brian Jacques ever created.

That rat... in that moment, he saw Death...

Agreed, Ranguvar is such a brutal character, I love her a lot for that.

Not to mention there's the mystery around her. We don't know the name of the island she came from, or if she even was born and raised on that island, why or how she came to be infected with Bloodwrath, who her family was, if she had any friends or even a mate and kit at some point...

She's both bad@$$ and tragic. Definitely one of the more interesting characters BJ ever created.

100% agreed. I'd love to read fic or theory about her background, tbh. I don't see her as having a mate, even less a kit, though who knows??

I think I read one fanfic about her backstory years and years ago... except I hated it, because it was wildly out of character, not to mention kind've... well, here's what I remember of it:

It started off with Ranguvar feeling extreme contempt for the other animals of her tribe/villain being excited over Strawberry Fizz (apparently she preferred blackberry cordial... I *think*), and later, when someone addressed her as "marm", she snapped, "Don't call me 'marm'! It's sexist!"

I just... argh... One thing I always loved about Jacques' series was that there really was no sexism. There were female warriors, female tribe leaders, female warlords, female spies, female scholars, etc. They all came in different shapes, sizes and ages, and they were all just as important as the male characters. So why did so many fans feel the need to write fics where female characters were "rising above sexism" and things like that? It always felt like a spit in the eye, y'know?
