Tanith is a very considerate person. His parents were older and all their children were grown when they adopted him; they made so many mistakes with their biological kids that they wanted to try again to get it right, and it seems like they did just that. Being raised in a small town, he knew the value of being there and helping out others when they need it. Growing up in a small safe community also meant making friends with everyone. It was rare for him to NOT make friends; he was so kind and respectful that even folks biased against snakes came to like him. His parents were proud of him and loved him unconditionally which made for one loveable snake. In fact, he may be a little too soft for his own good.

The snake hybrid can't seem to be anything other than what he is; he's almost genuine to a fault. He doesn't seem to be capable of lying and he has a hard time keeping secrets; he has a hard time believing that people can have ill intentions. If they just really got to know each other then there's no way they'd treat him poorly, right? He seems to have too much faith in people, which makes it especially hard when they let him down or hurt him in some way. While he tends to think the best of others, he also has a tendency to look down on himself. Even though he pretends it never bothered him, how people would treat him based on his appearance before even getting to know him had really affected his self-esteem. He worries greatly about how he fits into the world and had a hard time placing down his roots because he's always expecting rejection at every turn. While this makes it easy for him to compliment people and make friends, he's not sure how to deepen that connection (and has more or less given up on romance).

Tan, despite working in what would be considered hazardous occupations, often has his head in the clouds. He's been working with tools for so long that it almost feels like an extension of his body; he rarely ever gets hurt on the job from his clumsy, airheaded nature, but outside of work he definitely runs into trouble. He's not even daydreaming, he just seems to go into autopilot (much like his passport photo; if you see that expression on his face, he's likely not thinking about anything). While some may find this endearing, it can also be very frustrating and cause issues since he has such a big clunky body and a tail that seems to have a mind of its own. What's worse, however, is the fact that Tan can't seem to stick up for himself. He doesn't mind being the hero and stepping in if someone is in trouble--unless that someone is himself. He often defers to others, thanks to the way his siblings would treat him. He's quick to give up or feign satisfaction in an argument to avoid it entirely. He doesn't mind falling on his sword or being in the wrong if it means the other person will be happy again. It's mostly because he hates losing people in his life or leaving a bad impression. Growing up in a small town where he knew everyone meant that he needed to get along and depend on them to survive. Being in the big city was extra hard for him because he felt like he couldn't really rely on anyone. While he was clingy before, he's probably even more so now, especially with good friends.

{ H I S T O R Y }     「 In Character 」

「 History : "I was born in a little town where everyone had a specialized job; my family happened to be blacksmiths and carpenters, so I learned a lot about both trades! I think I would be a very useful addition to your island; I hear there aren't too many of either of those there, so I guess I'm in the right place at the right time!"」

「 Reason for Boarding : "I guess things at home are a bit... busy, so I figure that now that I'm all healed up and able to work again, this would be a good option! I feel bad about my parents paying for me to stay at an inn when they already have enough on their plates. Plus I'm really curious about this place; one of the native plants had saved my life, so, I'd like to get to know more about the woman who discovered it as well."」

Full History : Tanith had a bit of a rough start as a child. Put up for adoption from birth, his snake features were a true anomaly on this side of the world. Most Seoshuuns weren't sure what to make of the little tyke, but on the bright side, the laymen's aversion to him meant a genuinely kind couple would swoop in to save him. They were an older pair; their youngest child had just left the nest and they were feeling nostalgic for parenthood again. Having made many mistakes with their biological kids, they thought it might be best to give someone else a chance at a happy life, so they invested a lot of time and energy in their adopted child. There was rarely a moment when Tanith didn't feel secure... except for when he started to age.

The snake hybrid made easy work of befriending the other young kids in their little village. His parents were the town's only blacksmiths and carpenters, so many would visit them throughout the year and they made a pretty good living for themselves. One of the friends he made was the baker's daughter, a girl named Honey who he quickly grew to love like a sibling. When he wasn't playing, he would help out with the chores and at the shop; his parents raised him to be a very thoughtful, helpful kid that made those skeptical of his kind immediately warm up to the sweet boy. However, his carefree childhood seemed to shift as he matured. His body didn't quite match his mind--he hadn't been too concerned about it before, but as he and his friend Honey started looking a little too similar for his comfort, he started acting out. He would wear dark clothes and skulk around; his mood shifted drastically, and he felt completely misunderstood and afraid. If he told anyone, they might think he was strange, or worse, lying. He didn't want to hurt or disappoint anyone, but he couldn't even stand to look at himself in the mirror most days. All these emotions eventually boiled up and he confessed to his parents how he felt like his body was wrong. Being the loving and supporting kind that they were, they actually listened to him and tried their best to help their son feel more like himself.

It took some time to find a physician who could help them, but once he started taking medications to help offset his hormones, he started to feel... well, it was hard to say. He had only just started puberty, so this 'second puberty' had more or less felt the same as the initial one. Still, knowing that this would help him feel more comfortable in his skin, he seemed much more chipper than usual. Honestly, he couldn't have been happier knowing that his parents would support him. He knew they would, but the fear of being different or disappointing them was always looming over him, especially as an adopted child. His much older siblings rarely ever failed to remind him of that.

Despite the strained family dynamics, not much had changed in his mellow life. He spent day to day the same, doing some schooling, hanging out with friends, helping his parents around the shop. Rinse, repeat. Though, despite taking medicines to help his hormones, he found his chest looked... odd... Tan did his best to hide it, but the fact that his body wasn't "normal" was a bit of a sore spot. Even though he did his best to work out and wear the right clothing, he didn't really feel like himself yet. Still, he couldn't really complain; there wasn't much he could do about it anyway. At least, that's what he thought. As his 18th birthday rolled around, he was surprised by his parents; they told him that the capital had discovered a new plant on a far off island that would make surgery possible, specifically surgery to help Tanith feel more comfortable with his body. While grateful, he worried about his parents' health, as they were getting much older. They told him that his older sister and her kids would be coming to visit in the summer, which is when they planned to see him off. He was told it was a long procedure, one that was potentially dangerous (though they screened the doctors performing the surgery and were satisfied with the results), however, the worst part would be the recovery time. It would take several months. Knowing that their son was... not the brightest, they decided to put the money they stowed away for his schooling towards this after getting his consent. Tanith couldn't have been more excited. But with this news, he felt hopeful that one day he'd be able to live the life he truly wanted. With the good news came the bad--his childhood friend who helped see him through all of this, Honey, had decided that she wanted to open up her own bakery. He, of course, was supportive, but very sad. He gifted her a few home-made cookie-cutters in hopes she would remember him.

Honey left not long before his trip to the capital. He was scared but excited; he'd never been so far away from home before. And the city itself was MUCH larger than his little village. Everything was so... intimidating. But he made it to the hospital alright and he was given lodging at a nearby inn where he would have to follow certain procedures before his actual surgery. He just wished he had a friend nearby to help him through this... Either way, his day came, and... surprisingly went by quickly. Probably because he was knocked out cold the entire day. The next time he woke up, he was, well, sore for one, and two, much... lighter? It was hard to describe; he got what was bothering him literally off his chest so it was easier to breathe. What was more difficult than the surgery was the recovery time. He was bored out of his mind! But the crystals involved in the healing process slowed his blood flow considerably, which helped during the surgery but made the healing factor of the lotus take much longer. And apparently it would leave gold scars behind? He was skeptical, but ultimately didn't mind, so long as he could live his life comfortably. His time healing was slow-paced and he spent most of his time at the inn or making friends nearby; it wasn't quite safe to travel yet. That aside, as he corresponded with his parents, he came to find out that his sister was taking his place. They apologized profusely and sent him money to help him continue to live at the inn, but apparently his sister and her children needed his home more than he did. Tanith was hurt and confused about suddenly not having a home, but being one who rarely stirred the pot, he assured them he was fine and that he would find a job in the city as soon as he was completely healed. Despite his intense fear of suddenly being homeless, the snake-hybrid started looking into work even though his wounds hadn't quite healed. He was pretty fortunate to run into some kind people who took him in and treated him like family at least.

Tan felt like a fish out of water in the city, but he made the most of it. He even grew to like it, even if he couldn't get to know everyone. What he especially liked was the fact that no one knew him here, actually; he didn't have any trouble being the person who he wanted to be here. That being said, he did miss having a sense of community... He dreamed of going back home, that is until he heard about a little island home that was in need of skilled blacksmiths and carpenters--which he happened to be both. That seemed to double his odds; it was almost too good to be true!
