Description

The Kholas Array is a Deep Space Telescope constructed by the Geth using Reaper technologies. It was seen in the Mass Effect Discovery Comics.

The Array is a gigantic structure composed of three inactive primary mass relays joined together with Reaper and Geth technology. Using sensors in the combined relay corridor as a form of FTL "telescope", the array has the power to observe intergalactic distances in almost real time.

Considered a tall tale by the Migrant Fleet, the array was accidentally discovered somewhere on the fringes of the Perseus Veil near the galactic rim by the Quarian Shio'Leth vas Novarra during his Pilgrimage. Shio's former captain Jakin thought of him as a squirrelly naive idiot who thought he could use his Pilgrimage to befriend the Geth. In fact, he found a peaceful Geth enclave who gave him the coordinates of the Kholas Array.

The more hostile geth (later known as Geth Heretics) aboard it didn't seem interested in other galaxies; instead they appeared to be searching for something in dark space between the galaxies that Shio was unable to determine. It is possible, that they searched for signs of "the old Machines". For his part, Shio pointed the array at the Andromeda Galaxy in the hope of finding a new home for quarians there, downloaded the information recorded, evaded the hostile geth and returned to the Migrant fleet with the gathered data as his gift to earn his place in the flotilla.
However, due to the origin of the geth-data, the gift was viewed with suspicion. When he tried to enter the collected data into the ship's computer against the orders of his superiors, he was banished from the Migrant fleet. Shio came to the Andromeda Initiative and shared his findings with them.

A flaw in the initial observations forces Shio to return to Kholas acompanied by the Turian Security Officer Tiran Kandros and correct his information. Despite facing heavy geth resistance Shio and Tiran get what they came for and escape with the data for the "golden worlds" the future home for the Andromeda Initiative colonists.
