I liked in an AU sense, tho not really in canon.... heh I guess I lost interest in this pairing cos later I wasn't much in AU stuff. Gala/Flora is also kinda crack but I still like it lol.

Heh I don't really ship this anymore. Altho I guess I'd still consider it possible in an AU as I'd imagined. I always did consider it potentially 'weird' as a pairing (something we'd find questionable in normal daily life) and I guess it appeals in that sort of fashion, much like I can find same-gender incest a bit intriguing in fiction. I think I just found more sensible age-gap pairings to satisfy that interest, and this one wore out its welcome to me :/
I mean, I know they're not related or anything like that, but I still don't see the reasoning in it as much anymore. -_- It's probably just that their affection to one another was REALLY overplayed in the anime to the point that it actually seemed vaguely weird, TBH

lol. i never really ship them. to me tess and clare is kinda how you feel about raki and clare. it's a motherly thing and nothing more.
though i do have a thing where my oc's call their masters "mother" so maybe i'm not so far off from that idea as well.

I feel more that way now, but I guess I felt differently then for some reason. I COULD see it working with their personalities if Clare had been older/was older in an AU. But now that kind of AU feels too much of a stretch to me, if that makes sense?
I ship a couple of Touhou pairings that some people find more 'relative-like', thought... Kanako and Sanae are definitely NOT blood related or mother/daughter in canon, but for whatever reason some people make them more like that in fanon. I don't, so I've had some ppl look askance at me shipping them as if it were incest or somehow really wrong/weird.

funny, i've actually consdered that god/envoy relationship myself for my oc's. curious that we both have thought that.
and yeah, i don't really have an issue with other people doing clarexteresa, kinda like i do rakixclare. it just needs something of an au idea really. and the one part of the partnership aged somewhat. i like writing raki interested in an older awkward woman. lol.

ANd I just like the idea of god/priestess. It's totally a fantasy type relationship, but that makes it attractive on some level... considering in TH canon Kanako and Suwako need the 'faith' and belief of people to sustain their existence (i.e., sustain their chosen forms as kami) and Sanae's job is to gather faith. I write her as sort of a vessel for transference of 'faith' by certain... rituals. In that sense she's not powerless, Kanako needs her to survive. So it doesn't have to be a one sided or exploitative relationship.

haha. i guess my oc gods work differently. they don't need faith so the "host" they choose can pretty much be at their mercy if they so choose it. (and you know me, i sometimes like the domineering woman aspect thing.)
but the touhou idea is interesting. never thought of a faith gathering vessel before. huh.
and yeah, with clarexraki i generally make it like a present day thing where she's like 3 or 4 years older then him and in the same college class or something. so it's a lot more plausible then 12 year old with a possible 50 yr old.

Heh I sort of like that thing too, but in the case of this pairing I usually make the younger part the more assertive one while Kanako is nervous about the whole thing, due to being insecure about expressing vulnerable emotions.
In TH canon Sanae is descended from gods and sort of on her way to having godlike powers/status herself, despite being considered a human. So she's also not a complete pushover or helpless slave. She can call Suwako and Kanako's powers into her body and use them like her own, to some extent, and can literally act as a vessel in that way... I just like to imagine she's a vessel in the opposite direction and can act as the intermediary btw believers and gods. (She's related by blood to Suwako so obviously this woudl be kinda gross and I consider that Suwako just leaves this stuff up to Kanako... like she considers those kind of rituals to not be her department in running the shrine
I could see Raki/Clare working potentially in that situation, yeah.

that is quite an interesting idea for a bond and in ways, somewhat more complex then my own.
my own stuff the two guys just end up being host to female gods which can take over their bodies and amplify their powers, (along with some slight gender bending working like lycanthropy) but their reasons for taking a host are basically their own and have little to do with religion or requiring it to survive.
and yeah, kinda what i thought with claki in that regard too. (this also avoids the whole huge ass lancelot raki. personally i prefer clare to have the knight role and save him every once in awhile and him not be whiny about being a guy trying to protect her.)

Well in legendary terms the role of the miko or priest/ess was to be the earthly mediary for the god, they can summon the god into their body to use their power. This is how Touhou's Reimu performs her magical stuff, she calls upon the god of Hakurei-- she really is just a normal human who was born with the ability to summon a god. Traditional kami don't really have a physical form (we don't even know who the god of Hakurei is), this is why Suwako and Kanako are noted to be unusual gods. I figure that they would have chosen the forms that pleased them or the image they want to present to the world. Their losing faith wouldn't necessarily mean being extinguished completely, but it would mean their power is reduced so much they can't take their chosen form or use the powers they have now. It does make for interesting things to think about...
Also Sanae isn't an average human due to being descended from gods, she's a 'Living God' or 'arahitogami'. (In legend, the Emperor/Empress of Japan were considered to be living gods and descendants of Amaterasu IIRC) and actually she is semi-based upon a real person associated with the real Suwa shrine. It's... weird and complex. But really Eastern mythology and all mythology is weird, I suppose. I enjoy the random complexity of the stuff behind Touhou.
I agree it's more of a nice turnaround to have the girl need to save the dude sometimes.

that is an interesting background. (though i do get annoyed with them mixing religion into their politics to brainwash people into being more subservient to their emperors. ) yeah, quite an interesting idea. may have to apply that in my own series perhaps.
haha, yeah. though i like raki his whole "protect clare physically" always felt off. how i always saw him since the rabona episodes was he was there to help clare emotionally, which at times could be far more important then saving her body. i dislike that yagi went the route of having raki be so stubborn and continue to want to do the physical protection rather then the psychological support.

Yeah, Clare rarely needs physical saving, since even in the rare occasion she can't easily take it on, she can survive a total ass-beating like no one else. It's her mind that needs help.
