Description On the night of October 14, 1997, on our way to Hoboken NJ to chase C&O J3A Greenbrier #614 on the Fall of 1997 Erie Limited Excursions to Port Jervis NY, we stopped by NS's former Southern Railway Line outside of Anniston AL to chase Amtrak Train #20, the Southbound Crescent, from New York City NY to New Orleans LA. Soon, we caught the train running over 3 hours & 52 minutes behind schedule & making up for lost time as it files across the Alabama River heading for it's next stop in Birmingham. Leading the train is 2 P40DC's which were 3 years old at this point despite the (then) new P42DC's coming into the picture. The consist is 2 Baggage Cars, 3 Viewliner I Sleepers, a Heritage 10-6 Sleeper, Viewliner Prototype Dining Car #8400, 2 Amfleet Café Cars, 4 Amfleet Coaches, & 2 MHC Boxcars at the rear. The train would reach New Orleans, the following morning, while we continued to Hoboken.
