Description
On October 14, 2023 (this year), We traveled to the Reading & Northern to ride behind the Railroad's Reading T-1 4-8-4 #2102 on the annual Autumn Leaf Special from Reading to Jim Thorpe PA. We enjoyed the trip to Jim Thorpe & had lunch in town, while our train was turned around on the wye & serviced. Soon, we reboarded the excursion & are now returning to Reading. We're in the car right behind the power car, to witness the locomotive up close. The T-Hog is in it's second year of it's 2nd life as an excursion locomotive & is going well so far. Many of the coaches were historical to us, Both from the Original Southern Steam Program, including the Observation Open Air Car "Lookout Mountain" (which was the last car on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic railway Excursion) was notable for being on the back of both Southern & NS Steam Program excursions. Also, the Second Dome car in the consist, was notable for being on many NS 21st Century Steam Excursions behind NKP Berkshire #765, Southern MS Mikado #4501, & N&W J Class #611 & many more coaches in the consist to count. We would arrive back in Reading that evening, where 2102 would be cut off the train & towed back to the Railroad's Steam Shops in Port Clinton. We'll chase the following weekends excursions.
