Description On the morning of October 11, 2021, we're on the Reading & Northern's Reading Division in Hometown PA at the famous Hometown High Bridge to chase former Gulf Mobile & Northern G-1 Pacific #425 on the Railroad's Autumn Colors Special from Reading to Jim Thorpe PA. Soon, we caught the 425 & her 18 car train racing along at track speed heading towards Jim Thorpe with the assistants of 2 of the Railroad's SD50's. A few years prior, the R&N acquired new coaches from the Now defunct Iowa Pacific Holdings Company & the also now defunct Rio Grande Scenic Railroad, formally based in Alamosa CO. Some of the coaches have been repainted in the R&N Excursion Red Paint scheme, while some still wore their original livery. At the time, Reading T-1 4-8-4 #2102's restoration was nearing completion & the 425 was nearing it's time for it's mandatory 1,472 inspection which would happen after the following year's Excursion season. The 425 & her train would arrive in Jim Thorpe later in the day where the consist would be turned on the newly constructed wye outside of the station & be service before returning to Reading in the afternoon. Once the former GM&N Pacific have completed it's overhaul, it'll rejoin 2102 in the R&N's Steam Fleet for future excursions.
