On the afternoon of October 30, 2017, the day before Halloween, we're on the Indiana Rail Road's Indianapolis Subdivision at Lake Placid IN to chase trains. Soon, we caught one of INRD's Double Stack Container Trains which originated from the CN Intermodal facility in Indianapolis IN heading for the CN Interchange in Newton IL. The train consists of entirely 53ft Wellcars all loaded with Double Stack Containers bound for points west. The Power is 2 4300hp SD9043MAC's which the Railroad is on a long terme lease from CEFX. Since the previous year, multiple Coal Mines leads have closed & many power plants have switched from Coal to Natural Gas, with the exception of a few including the Ameren Plant. With the new Intermodal business, the INRD would see a growth in traffic for years to come. Once the Stack Train had passed, we continued chasing trains on the Indianapolis Subdivision before heading East to see trains on the Chicago & Terre haute Subdivisions between Hiawatha Yard in Jasonville & Van Yard in Terre Haute, with a local train switching the industries in Terre Haute, before calling it a day & heading back to the lodge for dinner.evangaines 2023
