The Final Runs - Part 7On the night of July 8, 1969, Lake Erie & Eastern Train #27, the Eastbound Motor City Limited, races pass our cameras heading for Boston. The train was on it's last legs as it thunders towards the East Coast. Within months after this shot, the train would make it's last run. The power on tonight's consist is an FP7 A-A-B-B Set with an Alco PA Converted steam generator car for the coaches sandwiched between the 2 B Units. The Area that this train running through is Killdane Forest in the Catskill Mountain Ranges of New York State. 2 Years prior, the US Railroads mail contract was switched over to trucks & airplane haulage. With barely little passenger revenue left, the LE&E began to discontinue their Passenger Trains left & right. The Final named train was discontinued on Halloween Night of 1969, leaving only 2 unnamed services left on the Railroad. Those services (Trains #112 #111) would continue until April 30, 1971, the day before Amtrak was formed.
