Description
On the morning of June 21, 1999, we're on SP's Shasta Route, now owned by UP. The train we're chasing today is SP GS-4 Northern #4449, "aka the Daylight" on it's trip from it's home base in Portland OR to Sacramento CA for The California State Railroad Museum's Railfair 99' that year. Due to UP's Steam Program banning Foreign Steam Power on their tracks, this would be the last time the famous GS-4 would travel over this route. At Railfair, the 4449 would be exhibited beside ATSF 3751, UP 844 & 3985 (Though during it's time, 844 would blow a tube while on exhibit, which resulted in her being towed back to Cheyenne by 3985), The Museum's owned P-8 Pacific #2467, & much more. Because BNSF has trackage rights due the UP-SP merger, Both 4449 & 3751 would haul freight trains with passenger coaches for their crews.
