Ghosts of the Future, Issue 17 Page 13!Another exciting installment of "Everybody Knows More Than Silver". Man I wish I could rewrite the scene where Sonic and Blaze meet to reflect this info better, it'd be way funnier.Β

What G.U.N. did was probably the biggest cover up in history! And it was all just to ruin Sonic and his friends' reputation as heroes, and for Eggman and Nicole to have easier control over the world.

What the hell? How could they cover up a world war? That's just nonensical and impossible. There's suspension of disbelief, and then there's asspulls. Sure, I get that GUN is powerful, but we're talking about a historical event that affected every single individual on the planet(World War...Egg?) Screw it, that's what I'm calling it. World War Egg). Unless they had some some sort of machine that could modify people's memories on a global scale(like the memory eraser things from Men In Black) and a way to somehow erase EVERY PHYSICAL AND FIGURATIVE TRACE OF SAID WAR without raising suspicion, there is no way in hell they could cover up something that huge. Not buying it. No way. Nu-uh. Like I said, there's suspension of disbelief and then there's asspulls.

Yeah, it's a very tough pill to swallow-- but remember that GUN has had two hundred years to do this. They've spent that time seeking out and destroying physical evidence, burying media reports and records, and orchestrating public education on a global scale. Their campaign is less about saying these events didn't happen--I agree that that's simply impossible-- but de-emphasizing Eggman and Sonic's role in said events. It turns Sonic and Eggman's struggle into a disregarded footnote of history, instead of the driving factor in a fight for the planet's survival.
But you're right... this is sloppy storytelling. I wish I could go back and lay out this history more comprehensively, with better pacing. I'm truly sorry if it stops you from enjoying things to their fullest, but I understand if it does.

Not at all. Something similar was attempted by comunist regime in my country. We were Soviet satelite, so every anti-CCCP event in history(like soviet-polish war 1919-1921, Soviet invasion 1939, Kaytn massacre ect.) had to be covered up or overwritten. All education and educational institutions were public (under goverment control) so in every school, unversity and encyclopedia people were presented with pro-soviet version. Onle way to learn real history (like in GOTF uniwerse) was through family (uncle of my grandfather was POW during soviet invasion of 1939 and was later murdered near Kharkov) and even then one had to be carefull to not speak about it in public(you never know who will report you to police/secret police). In the end regime fell, and truth won, but if it was to survive long enough(when people who lived through that events woud evetualy died out) then who know what would happen.Β MakingΒ parallel to the GOTF universe, GUN is a world goverment (or at least a global superpower), people who wereΒ witnesses to "EEG War" had long ago passed away. Taking to account that GUN regime in not especialy oppressive(or at least I did not see that in comic) and people standard of living is ok, I don't think that most of population would be especialy opposed to such coverup. Most people are more concerned with everyday life to care abut events from 200 years ago, and if curren regime is givng them aefe and prosperus live, then they will accept goverment narrative in this field (assuming this is the only thing they care to intervine in) and some of them will even willfully ingone apparent lies to protect status quo. Or at least this is my take on it.Β

Don't worry, I have a solution: Like I said, you could make it so that the whole "world war erased from history" thing becomes a combination of multiple factors, not just G.U.N. alone. Make it so that G.U.N. DID cover it all up, but not without outside help. For example, maybe they used the power of chaos-based time travel(like Shadow and Silver in Sonic 06) to erase certaint important historical parts of the war to make it so that it had less of an impact on the world, thus making it easier to cover up or maybe erase some of Sonic and Eggman's heroic/villainous feats so that they have less of an impact on history? Or maybe they screwed with people's minds and memories via a really powerful psychic or artifact(like the phantom ruby) to make them treat the war as less important than it really was? Maybe they used something akin to the super genesis wave from the comics to partially mess with reality? You decide. The point is, if you want to make it more believable, you should show that G.U.N. couldn't have done this on their own despite all their power, but they managed to do it anyways because they had help from outside. Someone or something even more powerful than Nicole or a secret weapon they've been keeping for years, for example.Β

Really? GUN covered it up? Well, that explains a few things...I had wondered more than once throughout the course of this comic why the "good ol' days" for Sonic and Shadow hadn't come up in conversation more often. Silver not knowing I could understand...it's sort of a theme in the comic, after all. 
Well, now I know.
