Available on Etsy! [link]This was made from scratch specifically for 's Make me a dragon contest. I really want to thank then for the opportunity to push my sculpting and painting skills to the limit!
The name is Mandarin, Tianlong was the "celestial dragon" that guarded heavenly places. Lengjing is the mandarin word for prism. When I started making plans to enter this contest I took the "colorful" requirement to heart and imagined a elegant Asian dragon who led the rainbow across the skies and danced upon the surface of the sea. I hope that I have conveyed the theme smoothly!
25 + hours went into the creation of this piece, he stands about 10 inches tall (the marbles used on the base he coils are a good size reference)
Materials: 2 boxes of super sculpey, full jumbo box of tin foil, wire, acrylic paint, glitter glue, super glue, several shades of iridescent nail polish, and decorative stones and accent marbles.
I learned a lot from this piece, in the future for example I won't be hand rolling fur like I did for the tails here, it took forever and I ended up losing a lot of the detail after it was painted anyway. =/

This is sooooo cool! Those decorative stones and marbles really add a lot of flare to this! You can tell you really put a lot of time and effort into this piece and it really paid off in my opinion!

I've been okay - working like a dog and whenever I have my day off something or someone takes me away from my relax day. Dl Today my mom wanted me to take her to the mall. :/ I also worked 54 hours last week. :C So much time lost!

Excellent! ^_^ The adorable poop machine is almost 7 months old and is well on his way to talking back I think lol, he already throws adorable little tantrums to communicate

You did magnificently! I've done the hand rolled fur effect as well, it does take ages. The way I made mine stand out with more detail is I had the ends kind of tendriling out and tipped them in silver. They're really delicate though, so my way isn't great either.

I did looser free standing ones on this recent sculpture [link] and they were falling off left and right >< I love the silver tipping idea though i'll have to try that next time, I adore how his silver antlers came out! ^_^

I really blended the bases into his main body, the ends are SUPER fragile though. Nest time I'll have to use sculpey's tougher detail clay for them.

Wow this is really quite impressive. I wish I could see the original, get properly up close and check everything out. Really beautiful though. I love the concept and the head design is great. I never really bother with the Asian dragons, I'm always drawn to the European types but this makes me want to check them out in more detail. I love his face whiskers and fluff. Definite thumbs up!
