this is a very good job, but looks like the Kayran from the witcher 2 game :s

I'm not familiar with the creature but upon looking it up, I can see what you are saying. Both have long tentacled faces with needle-like spines and a similar colour palette. I couldn't see much of the body of the Kayran design so I can't really comment on that.
I suspect that both creature designs draw influence from Tolkien's Watcher in the Water and various kraken designs.

Sweet design, so inspiring. Can't wait to create critters like this with an ability like yours, someday!

Whilst I studied graphic design and illustration at university, I would say that a great deal of experience with colour and art in general is found in experimentation and practice. If you are passionate about something and put the time into it, you will see improvement.

I get Watcher in the water mixed with District 9 prawns. Well done sir. Love the subtle little custom brushes and watery lines. Just had a morton bay bay in Brisbane - kinda looks similar too minus the antennae tentacles. Good luck with the comp, I didn't really get time to do any. I should have a look at what's been submitted. Catch u sometime soon mate

Yeah, didn't get the time to polish (or finish) the design like I would have liked but I was happy enough to get in under the deadline. It's a bit lobster, lionfish, squid, blue-ring octopus, ammonite, clam and random assorted insects in the melting pot for this one.

Thanks for your kind words. I've not seen the film 'Enemy Mine' so I cannot really say how it compares. Perhaps I should look into it. You are correct in saying that the human figure is far too large in the image and needs to be fixed. I simply did not budget my time well enough and rushed out this sketch so that I was still able to submit it before the deadline.

Thanks. There wasn't enough time to do too much detailing so I did what I was able to.

This is a very real monster design, love the details, the gills, it can be a real thing.
I've done a water one too, for now most people I see have done earth colossus.

evil-santa In reply to TheKiller7 [2011-06-21 00:43:26 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I saw your colossus earlier. It looks fantastic.
So yours is part whale?
And mine is part squid?
Obviously they must fight!!
I've tried to keep an eye on what other artists were submitting. There seems to be plenty of earth, fire and death colossus of a really high calibre and fewer strong contenders in other categories. I guess we will see how things pan out, but it does make me wish I'd set aside more time for this one.

Loled, I'm not very sure of the traditional, pale color looking design I did, looks very classic but "unimpressive" compared with most digital works out there. The rivalry is so hard, and I can't be any optimistic at this.

I'm not really worried about it competition-wise. The enjoyment for me comes from seeing all the strange and wonderful things that other artists create to fit the brief.
