Description I'm starting to notice references to Norse mythology with Pokemon X and Y's new legendary Pokemon thanks to this Dragon/Ground-Type named Zygard being leaked recently. A chital, a wyvern, and a snake...this is starting to sound like that tree of life thing from Norse mythology. And then there's its ability, which can negate Xerneas and Yveltal's abilities...an instant reference to Rayquaza's Air Lock negating Kyogre and Groudon's abilities. Now I gotta see if this alleged Ice-Type legendary pokemon based of the wolf known as Fenrir exists. If it does, then that officially makes it clear that there's some serious Norse Mythology influencing Generation 6's Legendary Pokemon this time around.

The new pokemon in legendary format are indeed based off the Celtic Myth of Yggdrasil and Nidhogg and all the other likes. Way too much confirmation on the fanbase and positive reference marks to disagree with it. Of course I like Yveltal and Zygarde, but I think Yveltal's design is alot better than Zygarde's. I don't necessarily agree with Zygarde's frill and 'arms', I think it could have done without. However, the over all concept is fantastic and I love the colors of it.

BTW kudos to you for drawing it at the tree of life's roots That's where Zygarde (Nidhogg) is supposed to be!

Well I love mythology. I figured Zygarde would have to be at the roots.

I think it would've been better off as something other than Dragon/Ground. I mean...look at Flygon and Garchomp. It's proof that Gamefreak still hasn't learned anything from giving Flygon that typing.

Are you familiar with the legend of Yggdrasill? You know..that "Tree of the Universe" thing? Apparently Zygarde holds this tree together. o3o

Oh, that's a cool legend. (Learned about Yggdrasil from Rozen Maiden~)

I just thought, since I read a legend about Zagreus (son of Zeus and Persephone), it sounded kind of like Greek. They sound kind of similar.

Your forgetting about the messenger squirrel.

True, but a lot of people are theorizing that the messenger squirrel is going to be generation 6's DLC Pokemon. (Much like Keldeo, Genesect, Meloetta, Arceus, Jirachi, and Celebi)

You mean event Pokemon, right? Because I am confident they said that there would be no DLC stuff for things like that.

Yeah. That's what I'm referring to. And it would make sense to make the messenger squirrel an event Pokemon. I'm hoping they do what they did with the Liberty Ticket, because I enjoyed beating some extra Team Plasma grunts in Black Version. Really helped me with defeating Burgh with my Servine. And the build up to catching Victini was done well, because Team Plasma wanted to use its powers for their cause.

OK. IDK about if its in game or given to you outside the game. I mean, not many Pokemon were added, so I assume there isnt many event Pokemon. Maybe 2 at best.

Probably 30-35 new pokemon in each Pokedex mode for Kalos. They'll probably only give them out when a movie comes out for them like they always do. And if they do an event for the 17th movie, I can almost guarantee that the event is the opposite legendary you can't get in your version, since they did that with Zekrom and Reshiram.

The total amount of new Pokemon is 69. The national dex ends at 718. So that is a HUGE downer.

True, but with all the new content it was probably the limit they could put in with the current limitations of the 3DS R4 Cards they use to make the games so that they didn't risk the game not working at all. I guess it would explain why Pokemon X and Y take up so much space on the SD Card.

Id assume so. So im giving them a break with the skimpy amount of Pokemon they addes ONCE. They better not do it again in the next gen.

I'm finding it odd that Game Freak is constantly referencing Generation 3 though. I feel like they're trying to tell me something.

Referencing Gen 3 how?

EvoDeus In reply to Shuckster1 [2013-10-08 19:08:10 +0000 UTC]

Zygarde's ability for example. It can cancel out Xerneas' and Yveltal's abilities. That's a reference to Rayquaza's Air Lock canceling out Groudon's Drought and Kyogre's Drizzle. And seeing how they are both trio masters made three generations apart, it's a reference to a degree. Then you have the Red Orb and Blue Orb in Heart Gold and Soul Silver, which allow you to catch Groudon and Kyogre...a reference to Emerald version. And then there's the Mysterious Cave in Black 2 and White 2. With the exception of braille and how hard the puzzles are unless you actually heard of it, it's a reference to the cave that opens up the Regi hiding places in generation 3 made simplified and easier to do. It seems to me that Gamefreak is actually listening to everyone that loved Generation 3 to some extent.

And when Gamefreak listens to the fans, you know they're actually doing something good. Which is why I'm hoping they take more feedback like this for future games.
