I'm thoroughly disappointed with this one, which is why I'm uploading it. Maybe someone out there likes it. I had in mind this really epic artsy symbolic metaphorical artwork, but was hindered by crap like "Am I drawing this right?" and "The eyes aren't right" and "the mouth isn't right" and "the hands aren't right". I ended up over-thinking everything, and spent too much time on the little details that I completely missed the big picture. D: Then I cried and went back to those basic guideline crap they teach you in those "How to Draw" books.

Screw this man. Maybe I'll get it right next time. TT_TT

dude this is a beautiful work of art

i don't see how you could be disappointed with it. the simple style & monotone colors work so well together.

one of your best pieces IMO

Ah thanks man. I generally hate being too simple, but I guess it can be a good thing!

Very nice drawing, I like the colors you choose, they made a great contrast, and I have your same problem, but unlike you, at the end I am not able to fix the mistakes XD

Thanks!

Lol yeah, usually on paper, I'll end up screwing things up like making the face too small for the head, and I really am not at liberty to fixing it. With Illustrator, though, I can just resize it with a few clicks, as well as readjust anything that "doesn't look right". I think I abused the system too much. Lol!

I'm good with anatomy and so I could pick all sort of holes in this, except I don't think it matters.

The pose is great, the black/white/red idea, the butterflies are like blood, like her eyes. The way her body echoes the sword. The slight unreality of it, she looks like she might be floating. She seems relaxed. It's quite beautiful.

Instead of studying how to draw books, study medical texts, study actual people, your own body. To draw anatomy think about what happens beneath the skin, the machinery of the body.

Study movement too, how people balance, how they tense, how their body shows their emotion.

I'm glad to see you trying new things.

I see my initial theme ended up delivering after all! Yes, it was my intention to make an eerie drawing, a bit scary, but will get you staring.

But yeah, I never actually followed a "How to Draw" book, but I'm very familiar with the process. I try to stay away from references as much as possible and draw it from my head, but I guess I got a little to self-conscious with this piece, and thought I could play it safe by drawing standard, strict guidelines.

I think the face is fine. The only major criticism I have is her right arm. It just looks waaay off. Other than that i think it's good.

Thanks man. Quite honestly, I didn't know what her right arm should have been doing, so I just BS'd it. Lol!
