I can completely relate to this. one time my mom and I headed out to the pier, and we see a sea lion sitting on a plank. My mom then proceeds to shout for everyone to hear,

yeah, Im a first-gen, too, and my parents are over 40 years older than me. We don't have a language barrier, we have the great wall of language issues. XD

I talk to my mom in English, my mom talks back in Chinese; my grandparents talk in their... uh, branch of Chinese and my other set of grandparents talk in another branch. Oh, my dad speaks a weird mix of Chinglish. Whee.

actually, I amd llearning a fourth language of german, which, as it happens, my father learned back in his 30s while IN GERMANY. So while he's re-learning it, and I've only got a total of about 1 and a half semesters in this course, and I'm trying to figure it out for the first time.
So what ends up happening is that me and my father will (on occasion) speak a mixture of 3 different lenguages. Since I'm canadian, I also will accidentally merge a bit of french in, and sometimes, if I'm sleep deprived enough, you might get sprinklings of japanese and spanish.
