Odd, this was posted in 2011 yet it showed in my newly posted stuff today?

Looks like at least two others (darthmaul90 & Brooklyn47) had the same thing happen.

I just put it into groups... A lot of my first DA scans were never submitted to groups, I'm glad you noticed it! Thanks!

Ahh, that's what the devil happened!

I was never a huge CNW fan, mostly because they were so destructive to the roads they took over in Minnesota. That being said I still enjoy seeing that oxidized yellow rattiness that I associate with them.

Ah yes, the old Cheap & Nothing Wasted. Β My dad worked for them for 25 years before the UP buyout. Β I liked their nose mounted bells on units like this, but it always looked rather strange to me on their E and F units.

Unique for sure! When I first saw the noseBells I thought they were headlights like on SP or Frisco. Another cool rail thing destroyed in the name of corporatization! DTI had those bells too.. Thanks for commenting. (My dad worked for Milwaukee Road 1948-1972...)

I'm very familiar with the Milwaukee Road.Β  Spent more than one day at the yard in Bensenville doing railfanning with my dad when I was a kid.Β  Somewhere I've got a picture he took of FP45 #4 on the Bensenville dead line about 1981.Β  I need to find that and post it.

And thank the *ahem* Useless PricksΒ for getting rid of the nose bells.Β

I like this lashup..especially how there's a Conrail unit at the other end.

I also see an IHB switcher in the background.

no those are normal for the canadian geeps, what i'm talking about they have like 2 rings... they look almost like a second bell was cut in half and the bottom attached onto the first bell

I'll have to look that one up, it doesn't ring a bell!

that is the same unit i've caught, even my description was off, they appear to be more like a horn than a bell, but since i have no idea what it is...

That is so bizarre, never noticed one like that before. It looks like it's on the old bell mounting.

it reminds me of some kind of like speaker / sound amplifier... like an electric horn instead of an air horn....i'm not sure if i caught the same unit before, but i think i've seen maybe 3 units with this... if they are the same unit or small handful with this attachement i don't know...

It's an electronic bell. Normally, they're mounted underneath the locomotive's body, but they probably put it there to directly replace the old mechanical bell.

I'll be looking for it on CP SD40s. Makes sense an electronic horn/bell.
