One of my all time favorite bands is Queen. A lot of people just don't understand their music, but it's art in it's truest form. I adore Brian May's guitar work. He's one of the great geniuses of modern Rock and Roll from one of the greatest bands ever. My friend Dan is probably the most Queen-obsessed person that I'll ever meet, and today is his birthday. I drew this specifically for him, and he'd damn well better enjoy it.I started the drawing with a prismacolor black pencil and inked it with my Tombow combo brush/felt tip marker. I sat through about three or four episodes of DuckTales while I was drawing it.

I totally agree on what you said about Queen and Brian, not a lot of people understand the beauty behind queen's music and the influence of Brian in modern music, not only in guitar playing but also in songwriting.

Ah, yes. That Wembley DVD is one of the gems of my collection. I'm quite fond of it. That's where the costume he's wearing in this pic came from, although I didn't know it when I drew it.

This is really awesome work. If you don't mind a critical comment, I would have loved to see that portion of the guitar behind the leg edited out, as it looks a little see-through. That's a minor point however, and all up, this is a fantastic piece. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

I never mind critical comments, in fact, I welcome them.
If this was a real, professional piece, say for a magazine or a book, sure, I'd agree with that 100%, and if I ever do a tighter color version, that'll be one of the first things to go.
But just as a drawing to show off here on Deviantart, I actually prefer leaving that kind of mark in. I like seeing things like that in other people's work. It lets you know a little about how they work, what's going through their mind a little when they let that kind of stuff show. And I think a little sketchiness gives this particular piece a little of it's charm.

Yep, he's been known to play one of those crazy acoustics from time to time, too.
I had to go with the white hair if I was going to draw in all the curls the way I wanted. Glad you like it.

The hands holding the guitar look perfect, I myself have recently started playing a bass guitar, which is hard enough to hold correctly let alone draw the hand positions!
I can't remember if Brian May ever played an accoustic guitar though.

Brian May certainly did and does play acoustic guitar. A great song that's full of it is '39 off of "A Night At the Opera." I used a photo reference, mostly for the face and hands, and he was holding an acoustic in it. It was possibly from a performance of that very song.
