LOL. I said if he can rock bad 80's fashions from purple eye shadow Make-up to Mullets to Glitter he can Rock the 80's penchant for animal print metallic spandex too! LOL

Actually, I thought it was fanart of Sebastian Bach before I saw it was in my Labyrinth stack

I don't know who that is. O_o I must be an old fart. (Unless it's Johan Sebastian Bach the composer....)

He was a singer with Skid Row before going solo. He was very pretty, and wore very tight pants. Here are a few pictures for visual comparison:

And because nothing is legit without a Wikepedia article: [link]

OH GOD YES! That was the "look" I was going for. I never did know his name. But yes, that whole hair band, glam band, make-up sporting, Totally 80's, painted on pants in Lycra and Sparkly spandex.

I was in High School 1986, I did the whole leg warmer, rubber o-band bracelets, aqua=net big hair stuff. LOVED IT!!!! (Still do!)

See, I look on the 80's with a kind of humorous air. Maybe that's because I was born in '86.

Its kinda funny, but every art teacher I have ever had has told me to use Aqua Net as a non-expensive alternative to fixative. I didn't know people actually used it as hairspray

Not that the early 90's fashions were any better.

But yes, Bach was verrrrry pretty.

I always loved the attitude of the 80's. It seems like everything was fun then. Now, it seems like there's a pervading air of depression and "why me?" covering our culture.

Oh God, I worked the aqua net! LOL! The White and Pink Can the Ultra Super Duper GLUE. I had the wall of bangs that could cut through a steel pipe like a ginsu knife! I'll bet it does work well as a fixative for eternity! Unfortunately my generation raised this current one, and on the whole my generation SUCKS as parents; We raised an entire generation of Entitled little emo shitheads. Or rather we invented the internet and let it raise the kids to become drama trolls. *sigh*

I've been working on it now until my eyes are all watery and bleary. O_o All in all about 18+ hours in total over the past couple of days... But it's coming along. Just a few details left like his medallion. His pants are all shiney! LOL... Let me just state for the record, painting metallic spandex and sequins will EAT YOUR BRAIN! Trust me on this one...

Hey, you're the only person here I've known long enough that you might recognize the "pants"... I don't even have the picture myself anymore, I did it for Lorena way back when... Jareth is borrowing Quatre's pants if you can remember that 3x4 picture from 10 years ago. <3

I still accredit all my improvement in the beginning to you, I still sit here and think of all the tips you gave me when I'm drawing. How've you been stranger?

My Hubby is too funny. He's a Laby fan too, but also sweetly jealous when I'm drawing sexy dudes... he stripped off his shirt and did the Bowie Prance around my chair announcing proudly he could take on THE BOWIE...

Happyily for me he could. Dress him up like Jareth and he'd work it. Wish I could work the fru fru dress. O_o It would still look like a mumu on me. LOL

:L that ould be annoying having to wear a big fru fru dress for your wedding ... i would refuse to get married if i had to :L i remeber watching the film for the first time and seeing the dress first thing i thought of was a marshmellow :L

Now see, in the 80's that dress was THE SHIZ! It's was Princess Diana (OMG I was up so EARLY to watch that on TV!) So I actually LOVED the dress when I was 15 in 1986. I even wore a sort of Fru Fru frock at my first wedding (1994, big poof was still fairly "in" those days...)

Many years later and a whole lot OLDER. I got re-married in 2008 and I had a very simple, Jane Austen-esque Empire waist gown made from my own design. It was much more "me". NO MARSHMELLOWS!

Links to pics of the dress if you want a looksee: (I designed my dress and the bridesmaid dresses. Simple but flattering on LARGER full figured ladies no longer spring chickens... And the Tuxes if you want to get right down to it. LOL)

Hey, it's a nice break from the 'serious' parts of painting.

fablespinner In reply to chilalisnowbird [2010-04-08 12:13:42 +0000 UTC]

I never take anything seriously... I think that's my problem. (Or solution to life)... I enjoy it when I actually get a chance to draw, it's fun for me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chilalisnowbird In reply to fablespinner [2010-04-08 13:03:29 +0000 UTC]

I have to take inking seriously -- otherwise I either give up halfway through or do a sloppy job out of frustration with how it's not EVA gonna be as good as THAT one over THERE, made by insert favorite artist of your choice.

Then I go have a party colouring.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fablespinner In reply to chilalisnowbird [2010-04-08 19:50:59 +0000 UTC]

Oh I love inking, that's always the best part for me... Coloring is my boring part, just the opposite to you. I find parts of coloring tedious, but I stick with it for the final product. And I learned a long time ago, never to compare myself to other artists I admire, it's counter productive to my self esteem. I learn slowly and hands on, so I get better at my own pace so I try to keep positive I'll get their level before I die and I'll be happy. There is always room to improve and get better and that journey is the important part.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chilalisnowbird In reply to fablespinner [2010-04-09 04:13:09 +0000 UTC]

Without a doubt! I tend to compare in the way that I look at what they do better than me, and then I try to replicate/learn how they do. Unfortunately, I'm my own worst critic.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fablespinner In reply to chilalisnowbird [2010-04-09 04:54:13 +0000 UTC]

I think we're all our own worst critics. That's how I improve too. Replicate things I like. My style is a bit of everyone else's LOL.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chilalisnowbird In reply to fablespinner [2010-04-09 05:01:09 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes. I stopped believing in 'developing your own style' decades ago. I don't know if others can tell that something is mine before looking at the signature, but I suspect that if they can, it has more to do with my usually very saturated choices of colour than the pen strokes.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fablespinner In reply to chilalisnowbird [2010-04-09 16:31:29 +0000 UTC]

I can recognize your stuff. And it's the pen strokes for me. But I pay close attention to that sort of thing, I always have. <3
