my gosh it is soooo beautiful. My jaw almost reached china when i saw this. a masterwork of design and drawing. im almost in tears.you're the master of shapes in ships man. 2D animate it flying through space shootin people down. or if you dont want to, i will. or if you dont want me to... well then that sucks. i gotta see it move.

3d model is on the list, but i need more experience with modeling before i can do it justice. but if you want to animate that image then go ahead. jut be sure to give credit as its due

I've got to agree that that's a nice looking fighter. And from reading previous comments, I'd like to mention that while I have little trouble with mecha or large spacecraft, fighters give me no end of trouble.
This one's inspired me, though.

flattered to be of service. for fighters my advice owuld be put some study into basic air to air combat techniques, and then some for aerodynamics. and lastly look at the modern ones out there not so much for the way they look but the way they work, cockpit visibility, manuvering charichteristics based on airframe, thrust to weight ratios, paload caps etc. then just think aobut how somehting owuld have to manuver in space. that wings have no purpose lest you want it to be a atmosphere capable vehichle as this one is. simply put get the physics. and then make that look cool, good example would be the star fury from babylon 5, one of the most practical space fighters out there. hope that helps a little, and if not be sure to let me know

Oh, that's pretty helpful. Probably more than I'd ever need to know. Most of my trouble is more on the art end than the concept end, though. I'll have to remember to make or find some references. And by make I mean screenshot off Homeworld.
I'm probably not going to worry too much about technical aspects because I'm currently concerned with a fighter for a shoot 'em up sort of game. And those don't pay much attention to physics. But a lot of that advice is stuff I'll be taking anyway. Might as well learn about what I'd be drawing, never know when it'll be handy.

few really good ones i can name off for you to get ideas from are the aforementioned star fury of b-5 fame, the x,a & b-wings from star wars, swordfish from cowboy bebop, sukhoi su-37 & 47 flanker and berkut, also look at the way current spacecraft manuver, space shutttle, apollo pods, etc
i dont know what most of the birds in homeworld look like...i htink i have an idea but im not sure. but the ones above all physically would move all sorts of quick-like

personally first thing i notice about a fighter is whether or not it would work. dad used to be a f-16 pilot so i was raised by a fighter jock. fighter aircraft in genral have been one of my geek points scince i was a kid. at one point i could quote to you all the specs of every major fighter on the planet (i have gotten very rusty however). i have alos notice that alot of people out there pay close attn to whether or not the physichs are accurate. be sure to shoot me a note or something once you acctually get one out, or even email (failurecrusade@gmail.com) me a w.i.p. if you want some advice on it. but if you are making one for space combat, then you need balanced thrust for the weight distribution, otherwise whatever you come up with in reality would fly in circles as opposed to a strait line

I'll have to remember that thrust to weight consideration. Also thanks for the examples. I've got some ideas of how things would function, but they'll probably help.
I'll be sure to note you with some concept sketches (currently doodling up a page of them during classes) that should all be general variations on the same sort of theme.

Oh wow, outstanding, you really gave this one a lot of depth. Your flying ones are very impressive. You always seem more confident in your strokes with them.

ive been doing flyers alot longer. along with ships, mechs are far more recent... i started them for the challende and becasue i think i have a few ideas that are far more practical than alot of them out there...not so much the lusfa designs more the human designs that i havent posted
