Here's my evolution for Popplio! I really think gamefreak is gonna elaborate on the clown theme and is gonna make it walk on two legs (maybe just for the second evolution), since this was also shown in the artwork for Popplio , where it stands on its hind legs making them look like clown shoes.Bubbounce (Bubble + Bounce)

I mean the art is good, but a while back (about 2 years ago) I was designing a game I was actually going to make called Pokemon Sun and Moon. But that's not the crazy thing ...
I was designing fakemon for the game, and I had a bubble Pokemon. It literally just looked like a bubble with a face, and all it would do (in theory) is bounce. So I called it ... BUBBOUNCE
AND NOW POKEMON SUN AND MOON IS REAL AND YOU HAVE MADE A FAKE EVOLUTION FOR POPPLIO CALLED BUBBOUNCE

I don't think Popplio will go this route because his bio says he's very agile so I think he may go a more Dewgong-y/Milotic-y route.

Just a note, the coding on the japanese site reveals it might be water/fighting upon evolution,

That could always be up to change or that icon is there for a potential new fighting type
But if it is water/fighting I hope it's slender and agile and not some blob :S

Well maybe a better word would be indicates/suggests. As to your point, it's in the "starters" page, along with the starters' type icons in the html code. But yeah the starter typing might be changed, but it's highly unlikely as sun and moon have probably been in developement since 2013 or so. That's how they do it, and by no the starters should be finalised.
The icons are numbered from 01-06 (have since been removed as far as I have checked.) and are as follows:
1 grass
2 flying
3 ground
4 fire
5 water
6 fighting
which suggests that rowlet will turn into a grass/ground, litten will be pure fire and popplio will turn into a water/fighting type. It was previously thought that litten was going to be fire/ground, but they realised ground was before fire. It makes sense Rowlet = burrow + owlet.
Burrowing owls are a thing and rowlet closely resembles a baby burrowing owl.

Seriously? I didn't hear that before. I couldn't really imagine Litten being ground, so this actually makes more sense.. but I don't think they are gonna change Rowlet's flying type actually. While they have broken some traditions before (like grass starter is always a reptile), they have never altered starter typings by replacing a type. But we'll see ^^

Oh god no. Don't misunderstand, I actually like this especially the clown shoes thing, I think is brilliant; but if popplio's evolution looks anything like this.....well, you think the hate is bad now...

The hate will always be bad though, Oshawott got a lot of hate.. turned into a actually pretty genuine-looking otter, and as Samurott still got hate.. but I get what you mean. The clown idea is probably not that popular with the general public, however Popplio's design and charracteristics are pointing in that very direction, we'll see how gamefreak pulls it off
