Dog breed portrait. NO REFERENCE (NONE AVAILABLE). Pilot P-500 ink, rendered in Flatbush & Thorsby, Alberta, Canada.

I can't say this is accurate having done it completely from my head (references would have been used had I had any internet but I didn't and no books to study from) but I think I pulled off the short wiry coat and the lithe, muscular body. I hope. The head's probably wrong and the coat may not be long enough but in general I like the rest.

I'm not really interested in critique on this - as this is traditional and done in ink, I cannot change things and I am absolutely NOT redoing this so there is really no point, except perhaps as points for future works.

Scottish deerhounds have to be my favourite sighthounds after salukis! (I'd looove a saluki but I'm afraid one would be hard to get. Maybe someday, after the german shepherd.)

Here's a hilarious write up concerning the temperament of deerhounds. [link]

I love, LOVE the scratchy rough sketchy look of his coat. The fact that you did this gorgeous pic without a ref is amazing. Especially his paws...i can never get those right with a ref, let alone with nothing at all!

Nice muscular definition.
Those things are huge. I saw some and an Irish Wolfhound at a Scots-Irish festival, and you know you see the photos but standing next to them...they are some huge dogs!

I met one once in Lethbridge, Alberta and I swear the thing was gigantic! Up until then, it was the biggest dog that I had ever seen. I was really impressed with it, it was a gorgeous animal.

I like it a lot The gaze is very scary. Somehow I think of the hound of Baskervilles
