Description I know it's not very good, it was my first attempt at digital painting.
Any ideas on what techniques I could employ would be appreciated.
By the way, all by hand with a Volito2/Wacom tablet and GIMP.

hi i think this is really good xDbut i think it could be way better... do you want an advice? look at a dress, and you will see that nothing is only one color... even if you see a blue dress or a blue t-shirt or something like that, is never going to be only one color and one tone... you have to play with more and more colors and shadows and it will look more real ;D
i really like it though ;D good work

I still think it would be goo to get a tute from a learner as they don't rush things but take their time.I think you are doing very well.

Unfortunately, my GIMP keeps crashing, don't have the money for a better program yet though.

Aw thank you!! I'm still learning, hoping to get more ideas, trying to find a graphics proggy I can afford, right now, all I can afford is GIMP, so I'm learning with that.

Gimp rules !

I'm not infographist but I have some skills for it... and I know that these manipulations are really difficult to do...

According to the wished result:
* You want something as real: find elements of real photos then try to associate them
* You want something as... cartoon or drawing: you can draw by yourself and/or modify real photos in order to have the same style
... here you try to do something of non-conventional... so, it doesn't work so fine... but it's possible with a lot of practice...

The basis of photo manipulation:
* learn to edit an image: selection, paths (I'm a fan of Bezier curves), crop, blurr, colors and so on
* use layers
* test...
The more you understand the basis, the more you will be able to do what you desire.

Time, desire and not to try to do complex things to begin (and not to be frustrated if it's doesn't work instantly... it's a real job).

Some people seem to think they have the right to tell others how to live. GIMP is a very good program, and it keeps getting better. PS is a good program, but I will never be able to afford it. The choice was simple for me to make, and I really like what I can do with GIMP. It is all in the learning, which requires ...Practice.
