When I glanced at this pic, I thought it was an Imperial Guardsman from 40k standing off against a Necron Warrior. Considering the type of people involved, I wouldn't say it's far off.

Not sure who you're referring to (I don't play games), but many thanks nevertheless!Β
Happy New Year!

40k is currently one of the largest Sci-fi universes around. Based on the grim dark future wherein humanity must scrap by the eroding factors of mutants, xenos, and heretics.
A guardsman is just your average human dude (or badass human dude) fighting the good fight for the Emperor of Mankind and dying in his wars. ...So he's a pleb that dies because his boss tells him to do so. (Ref: vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/w⦠)
A Necron is what remains of the ancient race of Necrontyr, that transcended their physically weak and gaunt bodies into immortal, metallic forms. Sadly, they exchanged their souls without knowing, and whilst the royalty remains sentient, the citizens are little more than automatons to do the bidding of their metal overlords. (Ref for a Necron Warrior, also known as the once-citizens of the Necrontyr: vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/w⦠)
Also, happy new year to you.

Thanks for the background info, Gabriel. Maybe I should get involved in writing/illustrating storylines for games...?

Well, if you want to illustrate scenes from existing games or series, I'd advise reading books or playing games of those series (40k has a lot to go on, if you're interested) . If you want to make your own game setting, it's entirely up to you what you want with it.

I don't want to illustrate scenes from games - it's just that I quite often get comments that my scenes look like some game or another, which is interesting as I never look at or play games. However, I do enjoy writing and illustrating stories...

Well, go do that then.
The issue is probably that those characters involved look too similar to other iconic characters or species.
