Description I've been kept busy with freelance work but in-between pictures I quickly sketched this up. There has been such a positive response to this piece so a big thank you to all those who've ed this in case I don't get back to you .

I had the image in my mind of Tron, removing his helmet after escaping the sea of simulation as the whole world starts to disintegrate around him (from Flynn and CLU's reunion).
Clearly the poor guy would be haunted by his past actions.

Okay, I like it. But I think that the Grid wouldn't disintegrate completely, and there would be programs that would survive.

It is, you get torn between finding Tronzler interesting as a tragic character and wanting things to come right for him.

Poor Tronzler, after all the #$@% he went through, I don;t blame him for having that face.

damn, your description and the desperation of the scene itself gave me chills.....

imagine that for the sequel....being the program that was there from the start, that saw it from golden age to tyranny, and forced to betray his own creator and commit heinous acts, and be trapped forever alone in an empty world crumbling to pieces until a User returns to aid him in rebuilding the world of Tron.

Imagine that, the 3rd and maybe final movie of a trilogy finally doing justice to the character it's named for.

Thank you very much for the comment. I got the chills watching the scene where Tron is plummeting into the sea of simulation after making his sacrifice. Sometimes I feel Disney films like this one come up with really interesting concepts but they do not explore them deep enough. I have mentioned this so many times before but I really hope they don't focus too heavily on the fresh young characters because that would just be avoiding the opportunity to look at a more weathered character from the original film.
A friend of mine suggested on LJ that it would be great if we could see a damaged and emotionally fragile Tron in the next film so he can finally meet Alan (who will hopefully help him to make sense of his messy existence).
Tron needs to come full circle, he has been the innocent hero, he's become corrupted and now he needs to come to peace with what he has experienced.

I know what you mean. Disney's usually known as a fairly widely-accepted, kid-friendly source of creativity, so oftentimes the adult themes are kind of hidden, only mentioned or hinted at without being fully touched on for fear that they'll alienate some of their audience. I think Disney's getting a little more adventurous lately, and they might be willing to take some risks and maybe look past all the flashing lights and easy shortcuts to really deliver some solid, poignant messages.
I think the next Tron should explain the promise that was stored in the ISOs, about how they were going to help mankind and "change everything," but you're right when they should definitely bring it back to Tron in the end and give him the great send-off he deserves. When Kevin was talking about everything the ISOs had to offer to humanity, why not look at Tron too? He's been in the system for thousands of their years (I mean cycles, right?) and has survived some incredibly trying circumstances that people couldn't within several lifetimes. When you have a program that's done and been through so much, they would have to have grown, to have learned, to maybe gain sentience, and in effect, to have become a person. And a program-turned person like that would definitely have much to teach users, for a change.

*DISCLAIMER: To be honest, I haven't fully seen (or don't remember) the entire first Tron, I was either too young or I only saw bits and pieces here and there, but the vivid concepts and themes of it always stuck with me like a little obsession. I can't claim to fully understand the entire journey Tron's been through or what his creators were thinking when they made him and gave him his task, but this is the best that I can surmise from what little I do know.

Don't worry I've only watched bits of the original film on YouTube, in fact I don't think I've ever come across a video or DVD of it but from what I've seen it certainly has its significance and was well done for its time.

The clips for Tron 3 that have been popping up look good. In the new animated series it sounds as though Tron himself will feature quite prominently. It seems to take place before the purge with Tron training up a new recruit to follow in his footsteps.

the movie has great effects but a god damn weird story I don't even fully understand?

feralkin In reply to mandarinmannen [2011-03-07 20:26:44 +0000 UTC]

It was a bit confusing at times, I mean the film is called "Tron Legacy" and we hardly see the titular character since he had been corrupted and hidden under a helmet most of the time.
Though I still enjoyed it despite its flaws- mostly because I like to see character arcs and shiny effects.
I find researching the background helps (I learned the hard way) but with all of the plot holes there is plenty of room for you to fill in the gaps on your own like what I've done here.

Thank you! It would have been wonderful if a scene like this were included in Legacy- even if they needed to use CGI on Bruce's lovely face.

RedRo In reply to feralkin [2011-03-03 08:32:09 +0000 UTC]

I completely agree! I have to admite that one of my biggest problems with Legecy was that there was so little of CGI Bruce, specially when they seemed to hype it like they did for Jeff in all the interviews.

Thank you for the comment! I am happy with how Tron's face turned out. I should go back to this piece and neaten it, add more detail elsewhere but sometimes rough drawings have their own charm.
