I can't wait for the new TRON animation!!!!I wanna see them happy together!!!!
I saw TRON: Legacy 3 times, but still don't get why CLU betray Flynn.

It definitely started with user error, but Clu was power hungry (it happens to the best of us), and the point at which they parted ways in their idea of a "perfect system" he used as a reason to call Flynn an enemy so he could take the direct route to becoming the leader.
Just curious, when you refer to "animation", do you mean Uprising (the second best tv show in the universe (save the grid!)), or something else?Β

User error. Flynn told CLU that he was still to create the perfect system, but Flynn never realized his definition of a "perfect system" didn't match CLU's definition of a "perfect system".

Why did CLU betray Flynn? Simple: Flynn created CLU to build the perfect system. In CLU's assessment, the ISOs were an impediment to perfection that needed to be destroyed. As Flynn was a supporter and protector of the ISOs, he too was an impediment to perfection that needed to be removed from the System. It wasn't personal - It was just CLU attempting to fulfill the function for which he was written as best as he could.
Logical, isn't it? The lesson is that, when creating a polymorphic program with that level of system access and control, make sure you are very careful about defining its purpose and operational parameters.
I like this picture. You really capture the three characters' personalities, especially CLU's politely confused pleasure at being the subject of his User's approval.
As I look at this picture, I can just hear Flynn saying: "Guys, together, we're gonna change the world!" Never were there more ill-chosen words, I think. You see Flynn forgot that, despite everything, CLU was just a program. A humble tool, made for a purpose. He would do what he was created to do, nothing more and nothing less. If that meant invading and destroying the real world? Well, he was made to bring perfection and change the world. In the end, everything he did and planned was to that end. Flynn realised that and that is why, in the final confrontation, he apologised to CLU, realising his own responsibility in what happened.

And that must be why he still struck Flynn. I still don't think the re-integration was how it should have ended, there must have been another way.
Btw, Really love this painting OP, I smile everytime I look at it. I can just feel the friendship between the three. Until Flynn's mistake.

The Clu from Legacy is not in the original; there is a prototype Clu who has a very small part. Tron and Flynn are major characters though.

I just read Tron: Betrayal, maybe I might be able to explain why CLU betrayed Flynn avoiding spoilers, of course
Flynn's life outside of the grid was complicated (with Encom and his family), so he couldn't stay on the Grid with CLU long enough to solve some issues.
CLU began to think he no longer cared about the world he created, he was... frustrated to say the least with his creator, he was not a stable source of leadership for the Grid, so he decided that, in order to create the perfect system, he must be eliminated from it.

Because he thought he was doing what was right for the Grid. Flynn programmed him to seek perfection and Clu is a copy of Flynn at that moment...he doesn't change or adapt, as Tron seems to. It's really tragic.

Actually, it was more Flynns' ignorance of the workings of the (gaming) Grid and forgetting that Clu was just a program and not human (so therefore could not waver from his directive) that caused the trouble. If he had taken the time to adjust Clu's programing or recalled that computers (and programs) will only do what you tell them to do he could have spared so much de-resolution.
...Sorry, gotta come to my favorite characters' aid.

Basically, Clu is still stuck on Flynn's original and slightly naive plans on creating the perfect system. However Flynn is human and his ideas and goals of a perfect system are constantly changing where as Clu has only one idea in mind for a perfect system.
Another factor of that is also from the comic Tron: Betrayal which covers the middle ground of 1982-1989 when things started going wrong between Clu and Flynn. The ISO's started forming into Tron city and at first things where ok and Flynn was mesmerized by the ISO's and believed them to be a miracle and a gift to the world. Where as Clu noticed that more Grid bugs where forming and attacking Tron City. He started to feel that the ISO's where the cause of the problems. There were even terrorist style attacks on Tron City which he believed was the ISO's doing.
Another thing that added to Clu's betrayal was that Flynn wasn't always there. He was there creator after all and he did check in often but he also had to run Encom with Alan Bradley and take care of a very young and mother-less Sam (who was mostly being raised by Flynn's wife's parents). So when it came to making tough decisions for the sake of Tron City Clu couldn't wait for Flynn all the time.

I felt the same way... The Betrayal comic is helping but not enough.Β I do like Flynn, but to put the blame on Clu and remain so blind (or full of pride ?) was unfair.I hope the third movie or the CG mini series (someone said animation?) will bring more information.

The reason Clu did what he did is because he was following his programing that Flynn had given him. He was written to create the perfect system, and all of his actions were only set on compleating what Flynn had told him to do. The problem was that Flynn forgot the most important lesson about computers/programs: They'll only do what you tell them to do, and Flynn left no wiggle-room in Clu's programing, nor did he take the time to adjust Clu's programing in the wake of the discovery of the ISO's either because he didn't remember that Clu wasn't human and wouldn't be able to change, or he was just so caught up in the exciement in the discovery and plans he was making he forgot entierly.
