Description Did a little oil painting practice today to try and lighten my spirits.

Its pretty much more impressionistic than anything, with most of the details only indicated. Still exploring jow these paints behave.

This is gorgeous. You should do more oil painting and impressionism! To be very frank, with no insult and only encouragement intended, I think your talent is lost on the rest of your gallery. Keep this up, it's really gorgeous!

Thank you. I certainly hope to do more of these. I love oil painting.

Forgive the essay, that follows...

I understand you meant it as words of encouragement, but why would you say my talent is "lost" on all my four years of work that I’ve shared before this? Im not sure I understand what that means.

Your words I must admit are quite discouraging and I don’t believe them. :/ My talents are not lost on the rest of my gallery. My joy and fulfillment in art comes from being a fun cartoonist, mostly, which is no less of a legitimate art form then oil painting landscapes. You can’t make a jazz player only perform classic rock. You can’t make a sculptor who works in marble work only in clay. Would you tell a children’s book author that their talents are lost on the rest of their fun or wacky children’s books and that she or he should write only deep reflective poetry instead?

Im not proud of everything I’ve made and make artistically, but most of what I’ve made, I enjoy, and it gives me fulfillment and an outlet to show something funny or cute, or wacky, or even outrageous if I so desire. As a cartoonist and animator, a lot of that is a big part of the tradition of the medium I work in. There’s a long history behind animation and cartoons that tells the story of this medium, from Fliescher, Warner brothers, Tex Avery, Disney, Bluth, Pixar and more into the modern ages, and an even longer meaningful history behind artwork entirely throughout the courses of civilization and how art and artistic expression has evolved and what it tells about each age we’ve come through.

We’ve gone from painting on cave walls with spit and pigments from different leaves, through working on wood and textile canvases, inks and paper, coloring on sheets of celluloid, mass printing comics on newsprint, and drawing on a computer screens with mathematical LED arrays to manipulate color and patterns, and sculpting 3D models both as puppets and on a computer, rigging and animating them to tell meaningful stories for audiences. Different forms of art have undergone many criticisms such as cartoons being dismissed as a frivolous fad in the early 1900’s, and many forms of art, writing, music and theater have even been repeatedly and unfairly demonized just because they were unconventional to contemporary audiences, if we look back through these ages of history and sociology. If these boundaries to expand upon contemporary styles and tastes hadn’t existed, we would still be thinking the legs of piano benches were scandalous to look at unless they were properly concealed.

Theres more I could say on this.

I’m glad you are encouraging me to pursue more traditional oil painting; that, I welcome with gratitude and joy. But (and likewise, I don’t mean this as an insult, only what I hope to be a meaningful and thought-provoking rebutle) you also are discouraging me from cartoon or fantasy imaginative art, and there is no reason why you should do that, and much historical and cultural reason why you shouldn’t,
forgive me.

Its simple, yet lovely. Without adding the detail some use you clearly define a stream flowing through the forest, bordered by trees and bushes.
It looks like a nice place to go for a swim to beat the summer heat. ^^
