If they had wronged her, she would just confront them, plain and simple. She can be quite rough when trying to get her point across or demanding her way to be the only way, but in actuality, she’s very friendly and cheerful. It just takes time to see how kind she really is. Marigold gets fired up easily and is usually optimistic about situations, rarely seeing the downside of things, most likely due to the confidence she has in herself. This allows her to keep up her energy all day long. She can also be quite witty, giving tongue-lashings for miles to anyone that deserves to be shot down or outright pisses her off. History: Marigold Luana Kushinada, affectionately nicknamed Mariko, “blossom”, or “little flower” by her father, was born into a loving, mixed family. Her father, Kinshiro, is a man who is very traditional to his culture, though very accepting and adaptable to cultures other than his own. Her mother, Lucille, was brought up in tropical environments, very different to that of Kinshiro’s, but the two were able to find love within one another and come to a happy medium when it came to settling down and starting a family. Due to Kinshiro’s work, they decided upon themselves to live in Fortree City, Hoenn – a place that would be close to Kinshiro’s headquarters and serve as perfect cover if they had ever been in danger. An added plus was the vast amount of nature in the environment, which Lucille loved. To please his wife, Kinshiro had a Pokémon ranch constructed behind their large home where Lucille would be able to raise and look after Pokémon of family and friends.

The firstborn to the couple was Satoru Kushinada, often called “Saru” a boy who took after his father nearly completely, in appearance and personality. The only difference was in his more upbeat outlook.

Marigold was born five years later, greatly loved by her family and affectionately handled and protected by Saru. Her appearance quite obviously resembled her mother to a T, though she acquired her father’s bright green eye color and birthmark, which hovered just under the corners of their eyes. It was already set that she would be brought up as a woman with proper etiquette from Kinshiro's upbringing, but given all the liberty to become whoever she wanted to be.

In her childhood years, after showing great potential at the age of five, Kinshiro began to train Mari in the ninja arts. Her personality had already begun to show at such a young age, and Kinshiro decided from then that Mari was strong-willed and perfect to become a ninja in her own right, being able to make decisions that would be favorable to all and not just one. Marigold excelled in unarmed and sword fighting, strategy, and aerobics, but showed her weakness in the stealthier side of a ninja. She was clearly a fighter, but could always do better in the silent aspects.

Kinshiro was a Fire type Gym Leader in the Hoenn region before meeting and settling down with Lucille. In fact, a Gym battle is how the two met. Those same Pokémon reside in Lucille’s ranch, where Marigold is free to play with them. Having a high affinity with her father, Mari was immediately drawn to the Fire types, who took care of her like they did with her father and brother. The Pokémon ranch also served as Mari’s playground, where she would climb trees and practice her aerobics.

By the age of 13, Marigold was allowed to begin ninja missions, only if she accompanied her brother on his missions as a sidekick. Though Mari had become well-rounded enough to be on her own after six months, she was only given solo missions after a year. In any case, she and her brother made her father incredibly proud, being some of the top ninjas under 20 years of age. In a solo mission, Mari was nearly killed during an accident, but was swept up and saved by one of her father’s Pokémon, which she used during her missions since she had no Pokémon of her own. This incident solidifies her vast love for the warm-hearted and passionate Fire types. From that moment, she decided that she would make it her priority to keep Pokémon, all Pokémon, safe at all costs. Marigold’s strong sense of justice was realized more and more as she took on more missions, and she tried harder to protect the good and bring evil to justice. With her combat skills and determined personality, she is confident in her ability to become a Pokémon Ranger and that is exactly what she does as soon as her 17th birthday arrives. Her wish to become a Pokémon Ranger was not denied nor condemned by her father, as Mari never retired from being a ninja. He felt she was doing what she believed was right for her and trusted her judgment.

During her training, before entering the Pokémon Rangers, Mari met and fell in love with a man named Lucas, who was also an aspiring Ranger. Though they were discouraged from having a relationship, the two fell in love and began to date, seriously. They both passed their exams and became Rangers half a year later, taking on missions and protecting Pokémon while still finding the time for one another. Two years later, still in their serious, loving relationship, an incident happens. Lucas is KIA during a mission. Marigold, traumatized by the first death that had ever directly affected her, takes leave from the Rangers to mourn. She had wanted to marry Lucas sometime in the future and his death took a dark toll on her. However, she bounced back after three, long months, deciding in her heart that she would live and protect.

With her resolve stronger than ever, Marigold goes back to the Rangers and asks to be stationed in a region underpopulated with Pokémon Ranger personnel. She is pointed towards the Borealis Region, given materials she would need and a direction to a man named Professor Laris, who would give her her first Pokémon. She is seen off at the Ranger’s private plane runway by her father, mother, and Satoru, who wishes her well on her new journey.
