Description
Here's the sword and two layers of the shield cut out. I'm also going to make the sheathe, but I'll wait until I finish both of these.I'm using pine for the shield because it's light and available in larger board, and poplar for the sword and sheathe because it's light, and easier to carve and more durable than pine.
Shout out to Solvash for making an great replica! I hope I can make mine as good as his.

Hahaha, thanks for the shoutout! But mine wasn't that great, I made my Hylian Shield/Master Sword in less than a week for my niece! Someday I'd like to go back and make a really nice Hylian shield though.
But this is looking really promising! I'm sure with your skill and talent you'll far surpass the Master Sword I made. Definitely for the shield. What's your plan for putting the curve into the shield? Are you gonna carve it directly from the wood?

thanks, I really loved your sword and the base you made for it.
I'm gonna carve it from the wood, but I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how big of a curve I need, and so how thick I need to layer the shield. Once I figure that out I'm going to cut the layers so the shield will be sort of hollow, and make the back side separate so I can screw the handle and arm strap on from the inside.
How thick was the shield you made?

I made my shield small intentionally. So it was only about an inch and a half thick. But it'd probably a lot thicker than that. Maybe even twice as thick at full size.
You know about Volpin Props, right? He's done a couple of shields that it maybe helpful for you to look at. Or maybe look at this guy's: fiberglassblades.com/Blades.ht… work since he's made some really good LoZ shields.

yeah I looked at theirs, but I can't get a good look from the side. Volpin doesnt usually answer messages, but I don't know if the other guy is still making things.

I don't think FiberGlassBlades is still around really, no. But I just thought looking at different interpretations would help.
If you really wanna be accurate though, you can do what I do when I don't have good references for video game props. I go on youtube and try and find the highest quality video I can of gameplay and take screencaps. Hahaha

I like to believe that it's obligatory that all of us Prop-makers must make a Hylian shield and Master Sword replica at least once in our lifetimes.

Yeah, I wasn't even taking commissions when I was asked to make it, but I figured it's a great chance for practice with other video game work. He even wants it plastic cast, but I'm still a bit new to it
