a.k.a. NOOO!!!!! a.k.a. I’m a horrible human being…Ok, so yet another Aangsty pic (get it? Aangsty? I’m SO clever ^.^) Anyway, the basis behind this image is the thought of what would happen if Firelord Ozai found out about what Avatar Roku told Aang in “The Avatar State” Episode. Discerning viewers will note that Aang’s eyes(mouth) and tats are glowing, and that a rather large bolt of lightning is moving straight through the vicinity of his heart. That’s right…I wouldn’t put it past Ozai to do something seriously f-ed up like this…or more likely, send Azula to do it for him. Kill the Avatar while he’s in the Avatar State, and voila! No more Avatar! ‘Twould really suck.
Lessons learned from this project:
-Inking does not ruin a drawing…it just takes a REALLY long time to do right.
-It’s ok to stop and restart. I had to completely rework his upper body ‘cause the original just was not working for me.
-The dodge tool is a miracle worker for glowy effects
-Lightning is not nearly as difficult to render as I thought
-It’s totally not cheating to use actual imagery as a base for what you plan to do. The clouds here started off as a compilation of a bunch of net imagery that I colored over and altered as needed
thanks to [link] for the lightning brushes I used as a base. All in all, this attempt at advanced digital rendering is not too shabby at all. Hope you like ^__^

I always wondered this myself. What if Ozai learned that the Avatar cycle would end if he dies in the Avatar state. Plus, this is amazing work, but also frightening to think that he really would gain pleasure in killing a 12 year old boy.

I had a sneaking suspicion for a while that Azula knew the Avatar Cycle would end if she killed him in that state (thus the zap in Ba Sing Se) . . . and that perhaps she found out through the corrupted Fire Sages.

Good picture! I'll be picky and say I don't think your What-if scenario would happen. When fighting Ozai as soon as Aang entered the Avatar State, Ozai tried to flaming-cut Aang's head right off, but Aang was too fast for him. I think Aang reached a level that would never allow Ozai the upper hand again.

This certainly is AANGSTY, but it's INCREDIBLE at the same time. Prophetic powers aside, this is an amazing work of art, I mean geez, the detail... it's very brutal, but that's why I like it. This is probably what Avatar might be like if it wasn't a Nickelodeon show. : )

thanks for not addressing only my powers of prophecy here...that got old pretty fast. And I do know what you mean about the potential for something more serious in this series. As it is, I think they've done an awesome job in pushing the envelope, but there are definitely episodes in there that remind me that it is a Nick show.

Love the pic. On a side note, she already tried to kill him in the avatar state. She almost succeeded, but only because she got him as he was entering it. In the Avatar State the Avatar is near invincible.
