Somewhere out there there's a demotivational poster saying that the opening credits for the Japanese dub of TFA makes Sentinel, who the artist dubbed the biggest douche in Transformers history, look badass.Here's my retaliation.
This is one of the best parts of the opening, plain and simple. I love it.

The more I see about Sentinel, the less i can bring myself to dislike him. I’ve only seen one episode of tfa and only got a glimpse of his personality. He actually seemed like an entertaining character tbh. I’ve seen small clips of him in mashups for some of the more funny scenes of the series, and he’s pretty funny to watch interact with others. I just wish that this was on Netflix, so I could actually see more of the story, but I guess I’ll just have to stick with my hopless romantic side of me and read fanfics. Just my interpretation (don’t kill meh )

Dude if you want to interpret him as comic relief, that's fine with me. What irritates me is when people shit on him because he was a little mean to Optimus that one time. Like shit, if people used critical thinking skills when they watched his episodes it's really hard to hate him. But hey, you do you, friend.

Thanks, yeah, I can see where you’re coming from, ive seen hate for my personal favorite, Ratchet, just because he was constantly grouchy. Maybe it’s because he cares about the team to a point where it’s hard for him to be happy. However, since I’ve seen close to nothing of this series I can’t really dislike a character if I haven’t seen much of him

To me, I don't hate him to the point where I want him dead. He's funny enough for me to laugh at, so he ain't the worst, despite his personality. Besides, he did have some good moments. BTW, LOVE the Japanese opening! I sing it a lot!

Ahh, it's been so long since someone's come on this page and talked about my favorite character. Thank you for the nostalgia. But to answer your question, from my understanding, the Japanese dub treated Sentinel much better than the English version.

While I can see how Sentinel Prime gets kicked in the skidplates far too often for the fandom, but how do you excuse him for shifting the whole blame for the failed trip to Archna 7 on to Optimus when it was his idea in the first place, as well as hiring Lockdown to captyre Decepticons just so that he can look like a hero when he cringed in fear when he first saw Starscream?

There's an essay for that. Bear in mind that Lockdown describes himself as a neutral-- I'm not one of them-- and sells his services to the highest bidder. Until he double crossed Sentinel, Sentinel was the highest bidder. Archa VII, I'm still working on the details and need to review the episode.

I'll admit that he's my least favorite character, but from what I read in these comments from you guys, it sounds like he just has an ego problem. I have to remind myself to look at things from both sides before judging it. I'm working on a fan fiction right now which involves mostly Megatron ending up in the shattered glass universe, which was caused by Sentinel. I'm still writing it and at first I was gonna have Sentinel as evil as he was in the movie, but now I'm changing my mind about how to approach that, which will now be that he sent Megatron to the Shattered Glass universe cause he thought it would be for the greater good. I don't wanna give away too much of what will happen, but basically by the time Megatron gets back to his own universe, he's broken and suicidal.

Yes, that is how it goes. Basically it's a part of a big plan he has set to get rid of the Decepticons and get promoted to Magnus. I have the first chapter up in my gallery (although I do warn you of the mature content it will contain, including slash and torture) I'm still developing the story, and even how I'm gonna present him. Sorry to say thought that he will turn out evil (but only because he gets more power, and you know that absolute power corrupts) however, I am going to also have the SG Sentinel in the story as well (he'll be the complete opposite where he was with the SG autobots but left because of the corruption and he's really noble and protects all others including organics)

I remember reading there were a few changes to the storyline to tie it to the live action movies (for example, Bulkhead was renamed Ironhide), but beyond that, I don't think so. (I can't speak or understand a lick of Japanese, I'm afraid.)

Sentinel is like Flash Thompson from Spider-man. A douche till you find out the reason. (In Flash's case he was being abused by his dad.)
I remember Derrick Wyatt admitting they needed a douche character, and originally it was going to be Rodimus Prime, but he had too many fans in their group. So Sentinel got picked for it instead. The douche character is more often than not needed as a plot device to help the main character grow, and to direct the fans hate towards something else in case the main character isn't likeable enough.
It's not often that they get more depth added to them like Sentinel, but it's over looked unfortunately in our fandom. So it is very nice to see a poster like this :3

And y’know what? That’s about as accurate as it gets.
That’s what I heard as well, that they didn’t want to make Rodimus “a jerk.” Granted that’s a sentiment I can support because G1 Hot Rod / Rodimus gets no love. But I’m not too happy with the end result—between the writers and the fans, Sentinel was always getting knocked down and kicked in the ribs.
Everybody thinks of Sentinel as being a rule-abiding asshole, but when you think about why (because he broke the rules, his girlfriend died and he couldn’t do a damn thing to save her), it’s hard to hate him. At least it is for me. Thank you very much for such a thoughtful comment. It really made my day. c:

I so sqeeed at this part, i also hate people who bash on characters like Sentinel, i mean sure he can be a jerk to Optimus but in a way he just making sure nothing happens to him, like Elita-1,in a way Sentinel is kindo maybe protecting Optimus.

Finally, someone outside of my circle of friends who gets that! That's exactly why he acts the way he does, so strict about the rules-- when he broke the rules, something bad happened to him (Elita-One was lost); he now thinks that ANY rule-breaking will lead to heartache, and he's trying to prevent that from happening again-- to himself or to someone else, like Optimus.

Yeah he is sooo sweet at heart but, its just his phobia of oragnics gives out like a comidic(sp?)sense to the show.... makes me kinda feel really bad when i laugh.

He is, really; you're correct, his phobia and overall nature is played for comedic relief. I have a hard time laughing anymore-- I did at first, but now I always remember the way he screamed Elita's name when she fell. My heart breaks for him.

Yes,i hate it when the others make fun of him because of that phobia, i know how he feels because i too have phobias, the bad thing is i dont even try to face them i scream for my mom or dad to do something about it, while they're like "what a wuss he's afriade of a little girl or a kitten so, *yells to Sentinel* If need to talk to some one you can talk to me.
