-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quietly munching on some berries, Aya basked in the sunlight that shined through the windows of her team's base. Finishing up the last of her breakfast, the Cyndaquil cleaned up the dishes and prepared to head out. Today was a big day. She and her partner Raggs were going to embark on their first mission. That is if Raggs would wake up sometime soon. Tilting her head upwards Aya sighed as the sound of snoring crept through the walls. Sometimes the Cyndaquil wondered why she put up with the troublesome Dratini. He wasn't a bad pokemon, but he certainly could be a handful. Clamoring upstairs to the dragon's den Aya barged in and created such a ruckus that the Dratini tumbled out of his bed and onto the floor.

"Whoa, whaaaa?" a sleepy Raggs mumbled out in startled confusion.

"Sorry partner. Time to wake up. Today's the day!"

"... Five more minutes..." And the dratini curled up trying to get back to sleep.

~

30 min later Aya finally succeeded in waking up Raggs enough to get him to exercise a bit. Exercise was always the magic trick to wake up the silly Dratini. After a quick breakfast for Raggs and taking the time to tidy themselves up a bit, Aya wrapped her red scarf around her neck and helped tie Raggs' red neckerchief. As Team Valhalla, it was time to head out on their first mission.

Walking up to the Rescuer Mission Board the pair noticed other teams coming in and out. Today was a busy day. This slightly bothered Aya for it meant that there was trouble out there in the world.

Glancing through the missions, Raggs wanted to tackle all of them. He made a vow to his clan that he would become stronger and evolve into a mighty Dragonite one day. If they tackled all of them, he would definitely earn a lot of experience.

Aya glanced at Raggs for a moment and quickly deduced what her partner wanted. The Dratini was a pokemon of few words but he had very expressive eyes and faces. Chuckling and sighing at the same time, the Cyndaquil figured that she'd have to pick the mission this time around. She appreciated her partner's enthusiasm, but his ambitions were a bit unpractical for now. When they first met Aya promised that she'd help make her friend stronger, but she'd do it at a reasonable pace. Placing a paw on the board, Aya reached out and selected a mission poster.

"All right Raggs, this mission here says that a Cherrim was possibly kidnapped by a Mightyena. They were last seen in a flowery grove. I'm vaguely familiar with the location so let's head out and scout the area for clues."

With an eager nod, Raggs beamed and the two set out to the flowery grove.

~

Upon arriving at the flowery grove, Aya and Raggs questioned the locals, trying to piece together the events that transpired. The full moon was glowing in the sky the past few nights and with it came the howls of an unfamiliar pack of Mightyena. By morning, a Cherrim had gone missing by the forest that circled the flowery grove. Thanking the locals for their aid, Team Valhalla carefully searched the boarder of the flowery grove and the forest to see if any clues were left behind. Raggs spotted tracks leading deeper into the forest. After checking the perimeter, the tracks were the only evidence they could find. Quietly, the pair began to follow the tracks as night fell upon the land.

~

As darkness surrounded the forest, it was harder to see where they were going and even brave Raggs was becoming nervous. They didn't want to wander upon the open maw of a wandering pokemon. Aya spoke to the Dratini in a hushed whisper, reassuring her partner. After a moment, the glowing flame on the Cyndaquil's back glowed faintly, providing enough light to lead the way in the dark. Back on track, the team followed the trail until Aya froze behind a large tree and dimmed the fire on her back. Raggs followed and ducked behind the large tree.

In the glow of the full moon, the bright orb in the sky shined down upon a small clearing where a large rock formation stood proudly. Behind the shadowy trees, orange-yellow eyes glimmered in the moonlight as a pack of Mightyena prowled around their den. Amidst the sound of padding paws and eerie night, the faint cries of a pokemon in distress echoed in the depths of the den.

Artist notes: I edited Aya's "scarf" into an actual scarf I originally planned to give her. XD Hopefully can fix this in the application form later on. Reused my Raggs paperchild since it works in this scene. This piece took me forever. I blame the background. XD

Ooh so clever! I love how you cut it out and laid out the scene like that! *u* It makes it seem like they're actually hiding behind the tree and watching the Mightyena!

Thanks! I had trouble finding a piece of firm paper that was large enough for the tree but recycling is an amazing thing! XD
