Description I recieved a request on Tumblr for a tutorial on how I animate things with a program called Imageready. Imageready comes packaged with earlier versions of Photoshop (I use 7.0).

Although this tutorial was written for Imageready most steps can easily apply to newer versions of Photoshop as well which have Animation capabilities built right in (Window>Animation)

Unfortunately I cannot instruct you on how to Animate in any other programs, I'm sorry!

Here is the finished example GIF!

Make the unmoved/smaller size of that picture.

Just like mine can't be uploaded cause the size was too big. But then I uploaded the unmoved one as the cover and it works.

firstfear In reply to VatoLaw [2014-03-26 04:03:43 +0000 UTC]

In newer versions of Photoshop beginning with CS (they're on to CS6 now I believe?) the functions of Imageready were put -right in- to photoshop .
To save things as animated and not just a static gif from a CS version of photoshop you need to go to File>save for web ^^ this allows you to 'optimize'. try looking for that option

By the way, do you know what it is about Tublr that makes it deny GIFs that are less than 1 MB ? I've just barely heard that it usually has something to do with overly saturated levels of cyan and magenta, but I can't for the love of god see what the hell the logic in that is ! I mean, seriously, there has got to a set of guidelines for any specific requirements that one must follow. Clearly, there is something weird going on with Tumblr, so I'm completely dumbfounded to not have been able to find this information anywhere yet.

I have photoshop CS6 and I could not find imageready.. but somehow I got the same bar under that looks like it. Only.. I don't get how you do the optimization panel.. & Save optimized. I just can't find it. o.o
I do have the function: "optimize Animation"
But then I only see:
*Bounding Box
*Redundant Pixel Removal.

If you have time to tell me what Im doing wrong or if you know what to do then I would really appreciate that.
I really wan't to try this out.. and make my own icon for once.

Photoshop CS6 has an option for the animation, you should click on "Window" (between view and help..) Β and Β click on "timeline" c:Β

firstfear In reply to fROSEn24 [2013-01-03 14:39:06 +0000 UTC]

that would depend on the program you're using and the quality setting or the number of frames the animation has, or the number of colours in the animation..there are different factors that attribute to save quality. In order to offer you with advice I would need more information on your specific setup.

firstfear In reply to Eradrom [2012-09-23 20:40:23 +0000 UTC]

no problem! I'm glad this was helpful ^^. I have CS5 too but it makes my computer chug so i normally stick to PS7 and Imageready for animation. Thankfully though the newer versions of Photoshop past 7.0 have the imageready functions built right in to photoshop instead of being in a separate program :3

Where is the optimize button? Please answer...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

firstfear In reply to Rurichii [2012-06-04 07:53:18 +0000 UTC]

please read the tutorial . There is no optimize 'button', only the optomize panel. The tutorial explains where it is and what it should look like for a standard gif animation <3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rurichii In reply to firstfear [2012-06-04 22:53:34 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it doesn't show the optomize panel, I see the stuff on top of it but I don't see it. The transfer image ready thingy.

firstfear In reply to Rurichii [2012-06-05 01:41:03 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure what you mean.

When you go to 'Window' along the top of your program..there is ..or.. there is not an option for 'Optimize'?

If there is not then you are using a different version of this program than I have and I unfortunately cannot help you

If there is an option that says 'optimize', is there a check mark beside it? If there is not a checkmark then click on the option again. A checkmark will appear beside 'optimize' and the panel will open.

If there is already a checkmark beside 'optimize' then you will need to take a screencap of the entire window showing this to me so i can find the issue. When taking the screencap please have the 'window' dropdown showing so I can see that there is indeed a checkmark beside where it needs to be .

Rurichii In reply to firstfear [2012-06-09 16:58:46 +0000 UTC]

There isn't. I'm using Ps Cs3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

firstfear In reply to Rurichii [2012-06-09 19:03:44 +0000 UTC]

ah I see.

This tutorial is for photoshop 7.0 and imageready. Not PS Cs3. Please next time state that you're not using the same program the tutorial is for if you ask someone a question about it . That would have saved us both a lot of time here.

You're right there is no optimize button in -any- of the CS versions of PS as far as i know. You need to save for web and optimize there. File>save for web.

As mentioned in my description...the steps for this basically work for newer versions of Photoshop as well. Animation is built RIGHT IN to the program instead of needing ImageReady. That 'Animation Panel' is RIGHT IN photoshop instead of in a separate program.

Me? Reading things in advance? Pshaw. (Sorry about that)

I'll have to go out of my shell and look it up in the program. Thanks!

you should be able to open the panel (if its closed) by going Window>Animation like in Imageready..just..this time in photoshop instead :3
