I'm just wondering-
how do you get the shaidng and complex detail like the minor shaowing and lighting correct in your drawings?
All I can draw is unrealistic-looking cartoons

For this particular drawing, the details were small enough that I used a tortillion for the majority of the little shadows and wrinkles and such. For the highlights, such as the shiny parts of her boots, I have a kneaded eraser that I can form into whatever shape I want. So I just create a really small point and I go in and dab at it until I've gotten rid of some of the pencil. So really all those light parts you see are just places where I erased.
Also, using a Q-tip works really well for shading because once you get enough pencil dust on it, it works really well for soft/subtle shadows.

lol thanks! I'm hoping to get a couple more full-body drawings done in the near future -- it's nice to finally have paper big enough to do them on!
