We've got agricultural pride, too! The best apples I've ever tasted are grown in Oak Glen, and the best cherries are from Cherry Valley.

Hmm, in that case, if I ever get to meet you guys in person, I'll bring you some apples from Fennville and cherries from Traverse City, and we can test both to see whose is REALLY better!

I'd probably be biased. After all, my grandma lives in Cherry Valley, and she's taken us to Oak Glen ever since we were kids. Our old summer camp is right next to the latter, also, so there's a lot of a memories attached to it.
There's a spot in Oak Glen where an old man used to just hang around in his backyard apple grove and invite people to visit and taste and purchase his apples. There's a cultivar you can't get anywhere else there. He's fallen ill recently (I don't think he has much longer to live), so I don't know exactly what's gonna happen to the place, but his son is selling cuttings, I think.
Further out is Ojai, where you can find a locally famous tangerine you can't find anywhere else- the Ojai Pixie.

Ahhh, nonstalgia! OK, you win - we don't have anything like that around here that I know of :/ Sounds fun (and tasty)! I hope the old man is ok, though...or at least that he's saved...

He was an extremely generous man, so I'm not worried in that regard. It's what happens to his life's work- delicious and unique apples and a location unlike any other- that I hope remains alive. I've only been able to visit it so many times. You could only know about it through word of mouth at first!
You know how it is... the parents or grandparents are passionate about something, but their children or grandchildren don't care. I hope that doesn't happen in this case.
