My Hetalia OC, Michigan, in her preferred civvies.
You may notice that her color scheme and personality have changed a little to better reflect her personality - she looked too sweet and perky before. 
When creating a Hetalia OC, you really need to remember that the whole point is not to create your own original character, but rather, you're simply putting a face on a spirit and personality that has already existed for hundreds of years. Michigan is not a sweet and perky place - it's cold and tough, with the warm exterior hidden away. So I tried to reflect that in the character I designed. By the way, the robin on her head is not her own little Gilbird or Pierre. She just kind of attracts robins, so she lets them hang around. They're not really special, and she rarely bothers naming them because they come and go so quickly.
Oh! And I colored this with Copic markers! I think I'm getting better at it!

Actually, I read that her cowlickΒ represents Mackinac Bridge with Mackinac Island at the end.

the only thing i'd say is that michigan needs a twin brother also named michigan to represent the UP.... personal things out of the way very well done incorporating many little things into her design, love the flannel

The flannel is a nice touch too! A lot of people I know wear them here, along with fleece jackets. I can see her wearing mittens all the time, because we're the "mitten state" hahaha.

Ah, thank you! I realized that after meeting a New Englander at an anime convention, and when I asked him how he liked Michigan he replied, "This town is nice. The rest of it is a barren frozen wasteland..."
Same here, on both counts! I picture her wardrobe being almost made up of jeans and flannel shirts and fleece jackets, with a drawer completely filled with mittens

As a Michigan citezin and Hetalia fan, I can say that I think you've captured her quite well! I love the way you describe her personality- it really does fit Michigan. It's quite hard to live here, but also really fun and amazing!Good job!
