Now that is an outstanding take on the familiar theme. There is a solemn reality to this portrait that i fear America is far more comfortable ignoring. That the dream does not always come in that same generic package of the standard family unit of wife, husband, and 2.3 children making a good living off the land. I bet this example may be more spot on that makes many folks comfortable. the old man likely ran off long ago because making a living off the land and keep body and soul afloat is damn hard work. The single girl left on her own to keep the whole thing from going four legs in the air as she struggles to eek out an existence, and hope there is something left over to dream about.
