Description "The Wolpertinger and their relatives are small, herbivorous gryphons living in in the Bavarian Forests of southern Germany and Austria (though there are a few extant species that can be found as far north as Sweden). Growing to be no more than 36 inches (91.5 cm) from nose to tail, Wolpertingers spend their days rummaging for roots and tubers in the underbrush using their tusks and paws. While relatively docile and not great fliers, they are good runners and climbers, and its hard to sneak up on them due to their large ears and eyes. Wolpertingers also sport a small pair of antlers, which helps them to both camouflage and defend themselves if confronted directly without means of escape. Hunting for Wolpertingers for food and sport has been a tradition in the area for centuries, and often you will see prized taxidermized Wolpertingers in shops across Bavaria."
