Description

The sound of hurried paw pads and hoof trots echoed in the empty cavern halls, the lone lucario picking up his pace, desperate to find a way out. Turn after dark turn with no luck. This cave was massive, seemingly endless, a practical labyrinth. It wasn't long till he found himself in a newer setting, one filled with a garden of beautifully colored crystals and gems, all shining and glistening above the blue glowing waters. But even in this beautiful place, the boy did not care. All he cared about was a means of escape. He found himself stopping behind a few of the larger gems, tired from running so much. He curled himself up into a ball, crying into his sleeves. There had to be a way out, there was always a way out. He… he just needed to find it.

Bryce spent as much time studying the crystals lining the walls of the cavern as he did watching the path he was walking along – if he could afford the time, he’d have happily stopped to stare at the scenery. But, there was still work to do, and the constant chance that someone ahead needed his help. He breathed a soft sigh, then paused, almost perfectly still as he listened. Suddenly ignoring the view, he continue as silently as he could, trying to pick out the source of the sound he’d heard. The path led him in front of a large set of crystals, and he paused again, tilting his head. It was coming from… he leaned to look around the crystal, raising an eyebrow as he tried to figure out just what the small curled shape behind it was.

“Hello?”

A quivering ear shot up from the curled shape, Finn freezing where he sat. A voice. A deep man’s voice. Slowly, he turned his head, his amber eyes gazing at the large shape approaching him. The panicked boy was frozen solid, looking up in terror at this thing baring over him, a thing that brought back too many painful memories, all flashing before his eyes. Gasping, he stumbled back, barking at Bryce.

“ST-STAY BACK! GET AWAY FROM ME!”

Caught off-guard by the small creature’s panic, Bryce raised both his hands in an attempt at a reassuring gesture. “Woah, calm down, I ain’t gonna-“

His eye widened as he saw the creature stumbling back towards the cliff side of the path, and he started to step around the crystal. “Wait, stop! You’re gonna trip!”

Finn’s eyes were filled with tears, too terrified to think rationally about this. Here was a monster he feared the most, coming right towards him. He didn’t even notice the cliff, his foot stopping right at the edge, sending a few loose pebbles into the rock laced water below.

“GET AWAY FROM ME!”

Bryce wanted nothing more than to obey the child – he could see it was just a scared child now – but the sound of pebbles cracking loose from the cliff’s edge held a lot more authority. Seeing no better option, he lunged out, grabbing the child’s arm in his outstretched hand and pulling him back. “Get back from there!!”

The moment he was grabbed, Finn gave a very loud yelp, calling out in pure fear.

“MOMMA!!”

A shadow below opened nine sets of gleaming green eyes. Only one sound had reached Zdyadia’s ears. Her child’s cry. Like a mother bear, she lumbered upward, onto the ledge, blind in fury. She gathered both away from the cliffside, and lodged a vengeful stab into the unfamiliar gijinka to free her son. It was afterward that she recognized Bryce, and the heavy smell of blood smothering the stagnant air.
